Stew-Stras, St. Anthony, T-town Win Eighth-Grade VB Regionals

Stewardson-Strasburg's eighth-grade vollebyball team won the Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional. Stewardson-Strasburg, Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis claimed eighth-grade volleyball regional championships Thursday evening.

Stew-Stras won the Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional.

The top-seeded Stew-Stras defeated host St. Michael, 25-15, 25-16.

Edie Wittenberg led the way for the winners with three aces, eight digs, 13 assists and seven kills. Karly Wetherell had seven kills. Ava Harris led in blocks with two.

Stew-Stras is now 22-2 on the season and will play Monday at the St. Michael Sectional against Mulberry Grove at 6:30 p.m. Mulberry Grove was a winner in its own regional over Pocahontas, 25-13, 25-22.

Class 2A Edwards County Regional

Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the Edwards County (Albion) Regional Thursday evening.

The Bullpups won in two sets, 25-18, 25-21.

Reese Hoene led the way with four kills, four assists and three blocks. Rylee Fearday led in aces with three and Madelyn Gilmore had four assists.

St. Anthony will now face Nokomis at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Class 8-2A Nokomis Sectional. Nokomis was a winner over South Central in the Assumption Central A&M Regional, 25-21, 15-25, 25-11,

Class 2A Edwards County Regional

Class 8-2A Assumption Central A&M Regional

South Central saw its season come to a close in the championship match of the Assumption Central A&M Regional Thursday evening.

Nokomis was a winner in the opening set 25-21. South Central fought back to take the second set 25-15. But Nokomis won the final set 25-11 for the match.

Nokomis advances to its own sectional and will meet Effingham St. Anthony at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

 

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis tallied a hard-fought victory over Jasper County to win its own regional championship Thursday evening.

Jasper County took the opener 25-14. But the Wooden Shoes fought back, capturing a 26-24 win, then taking the match, 25-23.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Ceclia Donsbach with two aces, one block and 10 assists, Alicen Niemerg with two aces, seven kills and one block, Ella Willenborg with 23 digs and CeCe Mattox had one block.

Jasper County was led by Ghast with three aces, Brooks with six kills and eight digs, Inyart with nine assists and Tate and Reich with one block each. Jasper County finished the season with a 19-2 record.

The Wooden Shoes advance with a 21-4 record and will meet Arthur Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Paris Mayo Sectional.

Arthur defeated Shelbyville Moulton, 25-21, 23-25, 16-24 to win the Tuscola East Prairie Regional..

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis -- Donsbach, 2 aces, 6 kills, 8 digs, 1 block, 10 assists; Isley, 6 digs, 2 kills, 6 assists; Niemerg, 2 aces, 7 kills, 1 block, 22 digs; Willenborg, 1 ace, 6 kills, 23 digs; Meyer, 1 kill, 9 digs; Ruholl, 12 digs; Mattox, 1 ace, 1 block, 1 kill, 5 digs

Class 8-4A Taylorville Regional

Chatham Glenwood, the top seed, won the Taylorville Regional Thursday.

Chatham downed Taylorville, 25-17, 25-15.
