Eighth-grade volleyball regionals got underway Saturday around the area. Following are the results for each regional.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Top-seeded Stewardson-Strasburg advanced along with No. 2 Sigel St. Michael and No. 3 Newton St. Thomas.

Stew-Stras downed eighth-seeded Neoga, 25-6, 25-17.

In the second match, Martinsville, seeded fourth, defeated fifth-seeded Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-10, 25-11.

In the third match, St. Michael won over Windsor, 25-6, 25-12.

The final contest went to St. Thomas over Mattoon St. John's, 25-12, 25-10.

Tuesday's matches include Stew-Stras against Martinsville at 6 p.m. and Sigel St. Michael taking on Newton St. Thomas at 7.

The winners will advance to the championship match Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Effingham St. Anthony, seeded fourth, downed fifth-seeded Albion. Albion won the opener 25-20 but the Bullpups came back to take the next two sets, 25-20, 25-23 for the match.

In the second contest, Oblong won over Hutsonville, 25-17, 14-25, 25-18.

Casey-Westfield then defeated Dieterich. Dieterich took the opener 25-20 but Casey-Westfield finished with 25-23, 25-21 sets for the match.

Tuesday's contests feature top-seeded North Clay (Louisville) against St. Anthony at 5 p.m. followed by Oblong taking on Casey-Westfield at 6.

The winners meet Thursday for the regional title at 5 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Assumption Central A&M Regional

St. Elmo/Brownstown was the lone area team to advance from the Assumption Central A&M Regional Saturday.

In the opener, Assumption Central A&M defeated Ramsey, 25-21, 25-16.

The second match went to Nokomis over Altamont, 25-13, 25-11.

St. Elmo/Brownstown then won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 25-13, 25-18.

The second round will be played Tuesday as top-seeded South Central meets Assumption Central A&M at 6 p.m. followed by third-seeded St. Elmo/Brownstown facing second-seeded Nokomis at 7 p.m.

The winners will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. for the regional championship.

 

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional

Cumberland and Jasper County advanced at the Teutopolis Regional Saturday.

Cumberland went up against Marshall. Marshall took the opener 25-22 but Cumberland came back strong to take a 25-14 win and a 25-19 tally for the match.

Cumberland advances to meet top-seeded Teutopolis at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Jasper County downed Red Hill (Bridgeport), 25-14, 25-3.

The winners were led by Brooks with eight aces, Radke with five kills, Inyart wth six assists and Reich with one dig.

Jasper County improved to 18-1 on the season and will now face Robinson Nuttall Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Robinson Nuttall defeated Lawrenceville Parkview, 12-25, 25-6, 25-22.

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional

Jasper County -- Brooks, 8 aces, 2 kills; Flowers, 5 aces; Reich, 3 aces, 2 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig; Inyart, 2 aces, 6 assists; Rice, 1 ace; Radke, 5 kills, Schackmann, 2 kills; Tate, 3 assists

 

Class 8-4A Taylorville Regional

Effingham, seeded fifth, upset fourth-seeded Mount Zion in the Taylorville Regional.

The Mustangs won 25-21, 25-23. Keagyn Koenig led in kills with five while Seatyn Althoff had nine assists. Alaina Miller, Madilyn Summers and Emercy Spicer had three aces each. Miller led in digs with five.

Effingham will now meet top-seeded  Chatham Glenwood at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In the second contest, Taylorville was a winner over Stephen Decatur, 25-6, 25-8.

Rochester then won over Mattoon, 22-25, 25-10, 25-21.

Taylorville and Rochester meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The winners advance to the championship match Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 8-4A Taylorville Regional
