Cumberland won seventh- and eighth-grade matches over Effingham in junior high volleyball action Thursday.

Cumberland went overtime in both sets to win, 27-25, 26-24 in seventh-grade play.

The Mustangs were led by Alayna Wade with six kills and four digs, Sophie Hahney with three assists, Tylee Johnson with six aces and Olivia Koester and April Martin with four digs each.

In the eighth-grade match, Cumberland won 28-26 and 25-21.

Effingham is back in action Saturday in seventh-grade regional play at Rochester.

Effingham's leaders were Emery Spicer with four kills, Seatyn Althoff with eight assists, Madilyn Summers with four aces, Keagyn Koenig with one block and Addison Barnes with 10 digs.

At Toledo

Seventh-Grade Match

At Robinson

Jasper County improved its records in both matches with wins over Robinson Nuttall Thursday.

The seventh-grade contest went to Jasper County 25-9, 25-10. The winners now sport a 17-3 record.

Meinhart led in aces with five while Stanley led in kills with five and assists with five. Gentry had six digs and Kuhl one block.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County was a 25-17, 27-25 winner and improved to 16-1 on the season.

Reich led the team in aces with four and assists with six while Brooks had four kills and three digs and Radke had one block.

Jasper County is back in action today at Dieterich.

At Robinson

At Newton

Teutopolis was a winner in both contests over Newton St. Thomas Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes went 25-17, 25-21 to take the seventh-grade match. Lily Tegler had six kills for the Shoes while Lexy Hoene led in aces with five. T-town finishes the regular seventh-grade season with a 15-6 record.

In eighth-grade play, St. Thomas won the opening set 25-16 but T-town came back with 25-19, 25-20 scores for the match.

Cecilia Donsbach led in kills with five. Alicen Niemerg had eight aces.

The eighth-grade squad is now 19-4 on the season.

At Newton

Seventh-Grade Match

Teutopolis -- Tegler, 4 aces, 6 kills; Ruholl, 4 aces, 3 kills; Brummer, 3 aces, 2 kills; Niebrugge, 1 ace, 1 kill, 1 block; Hoene, 5 aces, 5 kills

Eighth-Grade Match

Teutopolis -- Donsbach, 5 aces, 5 kills; Isley, 4 kills, Meyer, 2 kils; Willenborg, 1 ace, 3 kills; Niemerg, 8 aces, 2 kills; Einhorn, 1 ace; Mattox, 4 kills

 

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) and Neoga split victories Thursday evening.

Neoga was a winner in the seventh-grade match, 25-16, 25-14.

North Clay captured the eighth-grade match. North Clay won the opener 25-9 but Neoga took the second set 25-17. North Clay then won the match 25-9 to imrpove to 13-11 on the season.

 

At Cowden

Effingham St. Anthony picked up two victories over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade match, 25-12, 17-25, 25-20.

Leading CHBC were Natalie Tucker with 11 points and four aces, Harper Lilly, Tucker and Sophie Zumbahlen with one assist each. Zumbahlen led in kills with three. Lilly led in blocks with two and had one dig. Tucker and Zumbahlen had one dig each.

"We started off slow but were able to gain momentum in the second set," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "Unfortunately, we had issues with serves and couldn't pull off the win."

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony won 25-16, 25-21.

CHBC was led by Ethel Stuckemeyer with four points, two kills and two blocks, Allison Shields with two aces and Jayla Arnett and Jordyn Wright with two digs each.

At Cowden
