CHBC Picks Up Two Wins At EIC Tourney, Volleyball Roundup

ST. ELMO -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up two victories in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament Monday evening.

The Bobcats defeated Ramsey, 25-23, 26-24 then won over Patoka/Odin, 25-13, 25-13.

Kyleigh Wallace led CHBC in kills with six while Karlee Smith had three aces and three blocked shots. Marissa Summers led in assists with 13. Birgen Schlanser had 23 digs.

In the other match, Ramsey downed Patoka/Odin, 25-20, 25-17.

CHBC was led by Wallace with five kills and five aces, Summers had 11 assists. Smith led in blocks with two while Macee Rodman had 12 digs.

Tonight's matches are St. Elmo/Brownstown vs. Martinsville at 6, Mulberry Grove vs. Martinsville at 7 and St. Elmo/Brownstown vs. Mulberry Grove at 8.

The tourney then finishes out Thursday with the finals.

At Olney

Efifngham St. Anthony claimed all three volleyball victories over Richland County (Olney) Monday.

The Bulldogs won in varsity play. They took the opening set 25-13 but Richland County came back with a 25-21 victory. The Bulldogs then got back on track to take the third set, 25-19 for the win.

Abbi Hatton led the team in kills with 12 while Andrea Rudolphi added 10. Laney Coffin had three aces. Addi Nuxoll led in blocks with five. Addie Wernsing had 17 assists. Maddie Kibler led in digs with 16.

In junior varsity play, St. Anthony was a 25-16, 22-25, 15-11 winner and the Bulldogs claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-23, 25-20.

At Olney

At Centralia

Altamont traveled to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran and dropped the varsity contest.

CORL won the opening set, 25-12 but Altamont came back with a 25-16 second set victory. CORL then won the match, 25-22.

Leading Altamont were Maya Moore with eight aces, Grace Lemke with 12 kills and one block, Brianna Grunloh with eight digs, Peyton Osteen with 29 assists and one block and Kyile Osteen with one block.

At Centralia

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took on Newton and came out a winner in two sets Monday, 25-14, 25-20.

"Newton always brings a very good defensive team and tonight did not disappoint," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "I felt like the girls haven't played this well together in quite a while, so it was nice to see them cilcking so well."

The Hatchets were led by Ella Kinkelaar and Halle Moomaw with an ace each, Gabby Vonderheide and Moomaw with nine kills each, Kinkelaar with 23 assists and Kinley Quast with 13 digs and four block assists.

"Tonight we celebrated our seniors," said Coach Schlechte. "Seniors are Ella Kinkelaar, Gabby Vonderheide, Halle Moomaw, Anna Albert, Ainslie Eident and our foreign exchange student, Sofia Depoitre."

Newton was led by Schafer with four kills, six assists and 10 digs, Martin with four kills and Stanley and Schafer with one block each. The Eagles dropped to 20-14 on the season. Newton is back in action Thursday at Paris.

WSS improved to 29-5 on the season and returns to action tonight at Tuscola.

In the junior varsity match, WSS came out a 25-19, 27-25 winner to improve to 17-1.

Leading WSS were Mya Friese with two aces, Brinlie Durbin with six kills and Kendra Hayes with 11 assists and 11 digs.

Newton claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-21, 26-24. WSS dropepd to 5-5-9 on the season.

At Strasburg

Teutopolis traveled to Cumberland and claimed a 25-13, 26-24 varsity match win Monday.

Emma Deters tallied five kills for the Wooden Shoes while Claresa Ruholl had seven digs. Sara Niemerg and TaNeal Einhorn led in blocks with two each. Sara Zumbahlen led in assists with seven. Kaylie Jordan had two aces.

In junior varsity play, T-town defeated Cumberland, 25-6, 25-18.

Olivia Wittenmeyer led in kills for T-town with six and had four digs while Kaylie Jordan had eight assists. Madison Miller had six kills. Katie Horn led in blocks with three.

The Shoes will take on Robinson tonight for Senior Night.
