Effingham Junior High School played host to Newton St. Thomas and split volleyball victories Tuesday.

St. Thomas was a winner in the seventh-grade match. Effingham won the first set 25-19 but St. Thomas came back for the match win, 25-21, 25-22.

Addison Barnes, Keagyn Koenig and Emery Spicer led the Mustangs in kills with three each. Seatyn Althoff had four assists and one block. Aubrey Poe led in aces with three. Alaina Miller had four digs.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham won 25-21, 25-18.

Tessa Raddatz led in kills with six and aces with four. Maci Hayes had four assists. Kallie Phillips and Melia Wendling had two blocks each. Bailey Bohnhoff led in digs with five.

At Altamont

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Altamont in Tuesday play.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest, 25-12, 25-19 and now sports a 10-4 record.

Ella Willenborg led the Shoes with five kills and four digs. Alicen Niemerg also had four digs. Emma Vahling led in aces with four and Emma Isley led in assists with six.

"After the first few points, we did a really good job adjusting and making good passes and smart choices," said T-town Coach Anthony Munoz. "I thought Emma Isley had a good match."

In eighth-grade play, T-town won 25-13, 25-1 and has an 11-3 record.

Marie Zumbahlen led in digs with five while Brittany Swingler had five assists. Genevieve Mette led in kills with four and Clara Mette had nine aces.

At Altamont

At Effingham

Effingham Sacred Heart and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City picked up a win each Tuesday.

Sacred Heart won the seventh-grade contest. The Shamrocks took the opener 25-19 but CHBC came back to win the second set, 28-26. Sacred Heart then won the match, 25-13.

Leading CHBC were Jayla Arnett with five points and three aces, Brylie Prater and Jordyn Wright with three aces each. Ethel Stuckemeyer with three assists and two digs, Carissa Wakefield led in kills with six.

"While these girls didn't win the match, they played a spectacular second game," said CHBC Coach Angela Jefferies. "They found themselves behind 21-8 and were able to stay focused enough to win it. However, we fell prey to not getting our third game."

In the eighth-grade contest, Sacred Heart took the opener 25-14, but CHBC fought back with 25-10, 25-21 scores for the match.

Lena Bowlin led in points with 10 and blocks with two. Keaira Arnold had six aces. Haley Doty led in digs with three and kills with three.

"The eighth-grade team started off rough and had a struggle getting serves in," said Coach Jefferies. "They were able to get themselves in the right mindset and take the match."

At Effingham

At Shelbyville

Steardson-Strasburg defeated SHelbyville in both sevneth- and eighth-garde matches Tuesday.

The seventh-graders won 25-14, 25-13. Edie Wittenberg, Karly Wetherell and Zoey Conder led in aces with four each. Wittenberg also led in kills with six and had one block. Wetherell led in digs with four.

In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras won 25-23, 24-26, 25-23. Kendra Hayes had 11 digs and two assists while Shae Conder had six aces. Claire VonBehrens led in kills with three.

Stew-Stras seventh-grade is 16-3 while the eighth-grade is 12-1.

At Shelbyville
