Effingham St. Anthony hosted an eighth-grade volleyball tournament Saturday.

Stewardson Trinity claimed the championship. Trinity defeated Holy Cross, 25-6, 25-8; Red Hill, 25-5, 25-8; North Clay, 25-8, 25-11 and Sigel St. Michael, 13-25, 25-18, 17-16.

"It was a good win against Sigel," said Coach Tammy Manhart. This was the second time we have faced Sigel. Both times it went three sets. They are a very tough team to beat. Very well coached with lots of talent. I am proud of my girls showing their toughness in pulling out a very close third set. There was a cap of 17 points and it came down to the very last point."

Stewardson Trinity is 15-0 on the season.

North Clay defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown, 25-14, 25-15 then lost to St. Michael, 25-15, 25-11 and Stew-Stras, 29-27, 25-18 to finish fourth.

The consolation championship went to St. Elmo/Brownstown. SEB lost to North Clay, 25-14, 25-15; won over Dieterich, 27-25, 25-23 and then downed Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-21, 25-12.

National Trail Conference Tournament

The National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Tournament finished play Saturday.

Taking first place was Sigel St. Michael and second went to South Central.

South Central beat Windsor, 25-13, 25-7; won over Stewardson-Strasburg, 27-25, 17-25, 15-12 and then fell in the title contest to St. Michael, 25-13, 19-25, 25-14.

Stewardson-Strasburg captured third in the tourney. Stew-Stras defeated Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-12, 25-15, lost to South Central, 27-25, 16-25, 15-12 and then beat North Clay for third place, 29-27, 25-18.
