Effingham opened play in the Class 8-4A Volleyball Regional with a victory Saturday.

The Mustangs won over Mattoon in two sets, 25-8, 25-18. 

In the opening contest, Mount Zion defeated Charleston, 25-22, 25-13. The second match went to Rochester over Stephen Decatur, 25-9, 25-6.

Mount Zion takes on top-seeded Taylorville at 5 p.m. Tuesday while third-seeded Effingham meets second-seeded Rochester at 6:15 p.m.

The winners then advance to the championship match Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Class 8-4A Rochester Regional

Effingham -- Alyssa Martin, 1 kill, 3 digs; Averie Wolf, 1 kill, 2 aces, 4 digs; Berkley Pullen, 2 kills, 10 assists, 11 aces, 1 block; Sydney Cunningham, 3 aces; Eila Tuman, 2 kills, 2 assists, 4 digs; Emma Newlin, 1 ace; Natalie Armstrong, 3 kills, 1 assist, 3 aces; Ryley Engel, 2 kills, 5 aces; McKenzie Love, 4 kills

 

Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Regional

In opening play at the Paris Mayo Regional, Marshall won over Cumberland, 25-23, 25-7.

In the second match, Teutopolis downed Paris Mayo, 25-11, 25-8. The Wooden Shoes are now 11-6 on the season.

The third contest went to Robinson Nuttall over Lawrenceville Parkview, 25-9, 25-9.

In action Tuesday, top-seeded Jasper County will meet Marshall at 6 p.m. while Teutopolis, seeded second, will take on third seeded Robinson Nuttall at 7.

Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Regional

Teutopolis -- Ava Ruholl, 1 dig; Olivia Wittenmyer, 3 aces; Olivia Kemme, 3 aces, 2 kills, 2 digs; Allie Ruholl, 2 assists; Anna Probst, 1 ace, 3 assists, 1 dig; Nadison Miller, 2 kills, 1 block; Olivia Wermert, 3 aces, 1 kill, 1 dig; Mallory Bloemer, 1 ace

 

Class 8-1A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg and Effingham Sacred Heart advanced to the championship match of this regional after Saturday play.

Mulberry Grove defeated Ramsey, 25-20, 25-20 and Windsor won over Pocahontas, 25-9, 25-9 in the opening contests.

Stew-Stras, seeded No. 1, defeated Mulberry Grove, 25-16, 25-13.

Sacred Heart, seeded second, won over Windsor, 25-21, 26-24.

Stew-Stras and Sacred Heart will play for the regional championship Tuesday at 6 p.m. The winner heads to the Sigel St. Michael Sectional March 14.

 

Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

The host squad defeated North Clay (Louisville) in the opening contest.

North Clay took the first set, 25-21 before SEB came back wtih 25-19, 25-15 counts for the match win.

In the second contest, South Central defeated Altamont. Altamont took the opener 25-22 but South Central tallied 25-22, 25-19 wins for the match.

St. Elmo/Brownstown will face top-seeded Edwards County (Albion) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by second-seeded Effingham St. Anthony facing South Central at 6:30.

The winners advance to the title contest Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Regional

Dieterich advanced in the Paris Crestwood Regional Saturday.

Dieterich claimed the opener over Arcola, 25-19, 29-27. 

In the second match, Paris Crestwood downed Neoga, 26-24, 25-2.

The third match went to Casey-Westfield over Hutsonville, 25-12, 25-19.

Dieterich will now face Oblong at 6 p.m. Tuesday while Paris Crestwood faces Casey-Westfield at 7. The winners advance to the title match Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Assumption Central A&M Regional

This regional doesn't begin play until Tuesday. Assumption Central A&M faces Findlay Okaw Valley at 5 p.m. followed by Edinburg taking on Decatur Johns HIll at 6 and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City facing Decatur Robertson at 7.
