STRASBURG -- Despite making a few more errors than Coach Ronda Schlechte thought her team should have, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg nabbed a victory over North Clay (Louisville) as the two National Trail Conference volleyball teams met Thursday.

 

"The girls pulled through tonight," said Coach Schlechte. "I felt we made more errors than what we should have but we were able to take the win."

Windsor/Stew-Stras won in two, 25-16, 25-18 to improve to 3-0 in the conference, 4-0 overall.

Leading the Hatchets were Ella Kinkelaar in kills with seven, Hannah Hayes with 14 assists, Jessica Rauch with 11 digs, Brianna Hewing with four block assists and Hayes, Rauch and Adi McCray with one ace each.

"Jess did a nice job filling in for Anna while she's out with an injury," said Coach Rincker. "Bri was strong at the net and was able to put up several blocks."

Windsor/Stew-Stras tallied a 25-19, 25-23 win over North Clay in junior varsity play to also improve to 3-0 in the conference, 4-0 overall.

At Mahomet

Effingham traveled to Mahomet-Seymour and fell to the Bulldogs, 25-9, 25-19 Thursday.

The Hearts were led by Jacy Boatman with three kills and seven digs and Ali Davis and Abby Cunningham with three assists each.

In the junior varsity contest, Mahomet-Seymour claimed the win, 25-14, 25-21. In freshman/sophomore play, the Bulldogs were the winners, 22-20 and 23-21.

The Hearts are back in action with a varsity only match Saturday at Mount Zion, starting at 11 a.m.

At Farina

Effingham St. Anthony picked up wins in freshman/sophomore play and junior varsity action, but South Central took the varsity contest in two hard-fought battles over the Bulldogs Thursday.

South Central won the opener 25-23 and then went 26-24 in the second set for the match. The Cougars improved to 3-3 on the season.

Sydnee Garrett and Halle Smith were the kill queens on the night with 13 and 12 respectively. Madyson Magnus led in assists with 16. Sierra Arnold had 10 digs. Brooke Cowger led in blocks with four.

St. Anthony was led by Kyra Swearingen with 24 assists, Kate Hartke with eight points and Ada Rozene with 11 kills. 

The Bulldogs tallied a victory in the junior varsity match, 25-23, 25-23 and also won the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-22, 25-14. South Central dropped to 3-3 in JV play, 2-2-1 in freshman/sophomore action.

At Farina

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown pulled out a victory over Martinsville in non-conference action Thursday.

The Eagles claimed the opener 25-22 but Martinsville came back with a 27-25 victory. SEB then won the match, 25-15.

Jo Strauch led SEB in kills with seven. Peyton Garrard and Lillian Nolen led in aces with four each. Garrard had 17 assists. Laney Baldrige had eght digs. Strauch also led in points with 11.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed Dieterich in National Trail Conference action Thursday.

CHBC won over Dieterich, 25-14, 25-19. 

Dieterich was led by Emily Bloemer with four kills. Allison Schmidt had three assists. Kaitlyn Boerngen led in digs with 11 and aces with four. Emily Hall and Iva Lilly had a block each.

CHBC also claimed the junior varsity contest, 26-24, 25-16.

Altamont improved to 3-0 in the National Trail Conference with a victory over Neoga Thursday.

Altamont was a winner, 25-14, 25-13 and is now 4-1 overall.

Runge led the way in kills with six. McManaway had 16 assists and three aces.

Neoga was led by Avery Fearday with six digs, Gracie Gresens with three aces and Abbi Dow with two blocks.

In junior varsity play, Altamont also was a winner, 25-20, 24-26, 25-10 and improved to 2-1 in the conference, 3-2 overall.

Newton claimed a victory over Olney in Thursday action. The Eagles won 25-14, 25-23 and improved to 3-2 on the season.

Chapman led the Eagles in assists with 10 and aces with three. B. Johnson also had three aces and led in kills with nine. Chapman had 10 assists and Parr had 10 digs.

In the junior varsity contest, Newton was a 25-19, 25-20 winner and the freshman squad won 25-23, 25-5.

Clay City dropped the varsity match to Wayne City, 25-18, 27-25.

Leading Clay City in serves was Elaina Kessler with 11. Hailey Miller had seven kills.

Sophie Ogden led the winners in points with 12. Emily Duckett had three aces and five kills. Kinzee Musser led in assists with 11.

The Rams are now 4-0 overall.
