Effingham St. Anthony swept St. Elmo/Brownstown in high school volleyball action Monday evening.

 

The Bulldogs tallied a 25-13, 25-23 win in varsity play. Ada Rozene led St. Anthony in kills with 11 and points with 10. Kyra Swearingen had 23 assists. Kate Hartke, Swearingen and Rozene had an ace each.

In the junior varsity match, the Bulldogs won 25-18, 25-22. And, St. Anthony took the freshman contest, 25-11, 25-21.

At Neoga

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed victory over Neoga in action Monday.

The Hatchets won the varsity match, 25-3, 25-21.  Anna Schlechte, Jessica Rauch and Adi McCray had two aces each for the winners. Karlie Bean and Ella Kinkelaar led in kills with four each. Hannah Hayes had eight assists. Schlechte had 10 digs.

"We came out really strong in the first set but struggled with some unforced errors in set two," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We came away with the win so I'll take that. I'm pleased with the way we are moving the ball across all the hitters. We just need to clean it up a bit."

The Hatchets are now 2-0 in the National Trail Conference, 3-0 overall.

Neoga was led by Haley Stodden and Avery FEarday with three digs each, Andrea Burcham with four assists  Abbi Dow with three blocks and Abby Hatton with four kills.

In junior varsity play, WSS won the opener 25-11 before Neoga took a 26-24 win. WSS claimed the match, 25-18. WSS is now 2-0 in the conference, 3-1 overall.

In the freshman/sophomore contest, Windsor/Stew-Stras won, 25-18, 25-13 and is 2-0.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came back from an opening loss to claim the match over Macon Meridian Monday.

Meridian won the opener 25-19. But CHBC tallied 25-20, 25-23 wins for the match. Zaryah Smith led the winners in kills with seven and digs with nine. Abby Sloan had six aces, 16 assists and 18 points. Tatyana Duckwitz led in blocks with two.

In the junior varsity contest, Meridian was a winner, 25-20, 25-11 and captured the freshman/sophomore match, 25-10, 25-7.

At Cowden

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) played host to South Central and tallied a 25-22, 25-12 win over the Cougars Monday.

South Central dropped to 2-2 on the season. The Cougars were led by Sydnee Garrett and Halle Smith with two kills each, Zada Reynolds with five assists, Smith with two aces and Garrett and Sierra Arnold with four digs each.

In the junior varsity match, South Central was a winner, 25-20, 25-14 and improved to 3-1.

At Newton

Brooke Johnson had 14 kills to lead Newton to a win over Marshall Monday.

The Eagles lost the opening set, 25-16 but came back strong with 25-13, 25-14 counts for the win. Newton is now 2-2 on the season.

Johnson also led in digs with 10. Brooke Schafer led in assists with 20. Faith Shull had five blocks and Jenna Ochs led in aces with five.

In the junior varsity match, Newton was a winner, 26-24, 27-25.
