St. Anthony Beats T-town, Area Volleyball Roundup

Effiingham St. Anthony High School tallied a victory over Teutopolis Saturday in volleyball competition.

The Wooden Shoes claimed the opener 25-20 but St. Anthony came back with 25-17, 25-23 counts for the win.

The Bulldogs were led by Kate Hartke with three aces and 15 points, Ada Rozene with eight kills; Kyra Swearingen with 28 assists and Lucy Fearday with eight kills and one block.

T-town was led by Carly Michels with two blocks, six digs, 11 kills and five points, Tia Probst with 10 assists, Macy Swingler with six digs and Emily Konkel with two blocks. The Shoes dropped to 1-3.

In junior varsity play, T-town was a winner, 18-25, 26-24, 15-8 and won the freshman/sophomore match, 13-21, 21-17, 15-13.

At Warrensburg

Altamont fell to host Warrensburg-Latham in both junior varsity and varsity action Saturday.

Warrensburg-Latham took the varsity contest, 25-20, 25-17. Altamont dropped to 2-1 on the season.

The Indians were led by Ruffner with four kills and six digs, McManaway with eight assists and Tedrick with two blocks.

In junior varsity play, Warrensburg-Latham won, 25-18, 25-23. The Indians fell to 2-1 on the season.

In a Friday match, Teutopolis claimed a victory over South Central, 25-20, 25-17.

Carly Michels led the Wooden Shoes with nine digs and nine kills while Tia Probst led in assists with 12. Macy Swingler led in points with eight. T-town improved to 1-2.

South Central was led by Madyson Magnus with five assists, Halle Smith with six kills and six digs and Sydnee Garrett with four aces. The Cougars dropped to 2-1.

In the junior varsity contest, T-town was a winner, 25-23, 25-20. The Wooden Shoes also claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 15-21, 21-14, 15-8.

South Central fell to 2-1 in junior varsity and freshman/sophomore action.

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) claimed a victory over Oblong Friday.

Oblong won the opener 26-24 but the Cardinals rallied with 25-19, 25-16 sets for the win.

Oblong claimed the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-15.

 

At Newton

Newton claimed both the freshman and junior varsity wins but fell in varsity action to Charleston Friday.

The Trojans won the varsity contest, 25-11, 25-10. Newton dropped to 1-2 on the season.

Ochs led Newton in kills with four while Schafer had seven assists. B. Johnson led in digs with seven.

The Eagles won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 22-25, 15-9 and took the freshman match, 25-17, 27-25.

Clay City nabbed a victory over  Webber Township (Bluford) Friday.

Clay City won 25-10, 25-13. Taylor Pittman led the winners with four aces. Gracie Warren had nine kills while Morgan Hance and Hailey Miller had seven kills each.

The Wolves also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-19, 25-21. Hailey Miller had 13 kills.
