Stew-Stras Improves Record; Area Roundup

BROWNSTOWN -- Stewardson-Strasburg handed Brownstown a National Trail Conference volleyball loss Thursday.

The Comets won 25-13, 25-23 to improve to 8-1 in the conference, 11-5 overall.

"The girls came out in game one ready to play," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We were able to work on some new plays and they looked good. Game two we let down a bit but Brownstown was able to pull up most of our hits."

Kelsie Walden led the winners in assists with 19. Kendall Knop had 20 digs and seven aces. Lindsay Burton led the squad in kills with nine.

In the junior varsity contest, Brownstown picked up the win 25-19, 25-14. Stew-Stras drops to 1-8 in the conference, 1-10 overall. The Comets will be back in action Tuesday hosting St. Anthony.

At Beecher City

Altamont traveled to Beecher City for National Trail Conference play and won in two games, 25-17, 25-19.

Altamont was led by White with eight kills, three aces and two stuff blocks,  M. Ohnesorge with six assists and Ledbetter with seven digs. The Indians are 3-5 in the NTC, 6-13 overall.

Beecher City was led by Taylor Danekas with three aces, Kirsten Buzzard with eight digs, Caitlin Sloan with three kills, Kacie Hilt with five assists and Kirby Herrmann with two blocks.

Newton fell to Edwards County (Albion) in two games, 25-16, 25-19. Leading the Eagles were Megan Jansen with seven assists and Keidrah Hardiek with five kills and nine digs.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo defeated Windsor in National Trail Conference play 27-25, 25-16. Jenny Bullock led Windsor in kills with eight while Olivia Williamson had nine assists and Dani Bell 11 digs.

St. Elmo won the junior varsity match 25-17, 10-25, 25-19.

Windsor drops to 5-3 in the NTC, 13-8 overall.

At Neoga

Neoga picked up NTC victories over Cowden-Herrick. The Indians lost the opener 25-15 but came back with 26-24 and 25-18 to pull out the victory.

Micah Jones led Cowden-Herrick with eight kills and four blocks. Hannah Wehrle had three aces.

Neoga also nabbed the JV win 25-21, 22-25, 25-18.

Cowden-Herrick drops to 3-6 in the conference, 6-7 overall.

At Olney

Cumberland defeated Olney 25-20, 25-21. Kassidy Hunt led the winners in kills with 11 and had seven points, six digs and two blocks. Kamisha Holsapple led in assists with 18 and had seven points and three aces.  The Pirates are now 12-7 on the season.

In the junior varsity match, Olney won 25-15, 25-19., Cumberland drops to 3-7.
