SE/B Moves Into EIC Title Volleyball Match

ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown High School moved into the championshp match of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament with a final victory Thursday evening.

The Eagles defeated Beecher City, 25-12, 25-16 to finish Pool A play with a perfect 3-0 record. In other matches Thursday, Cowden-Herrick defeated Mulberry Grove 25-10, 25-18 and won over Beecher City 25-18, 25-11 to finish with a 2-1 record in Pool A.

Tonight's schedule will find Mulberry Grove against Ramsey at 5 p.m.  The winner of that contest faces Beecher City for fifth place at 6. Cowden-Herrick goes against Patoka for third place at 7 p.m. and St. Elmo/Brownstsown takes on Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran for the championship at 8.

 

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony claimed a 25--9, 25-14 win over North Clay (Louisville) during Senior Night festivities Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs are saying goodbye to four seniors, Megan Nuxoll, Logan Braunecker, Emily Wortman and Rachel Schultz.

Braunecker led the Bulldogs in kills with 11. Wortman had nine digs. Jena Woltman led in assists with 26. Nuxoll and Aly Esker had a block each. Isabel Moore and Nuxoll had three aces each.

In the junior varsity match, St. Anthony was a winner 25-16, 25-11.

Dieterich played host to Altamont in Volley for a Cure night. The visiting Indians won 25-19, 25-22.

Leading Dieterich were Mallorie Vahling in points with nine and aces with two. Katlyn Lane had eight digs. Mikayla Winters had six kills and two blocks. Hannah Hunzinger had 11 assists.

At Farina

South Central claimed a National Trail Conference win over Neoga, 25-17, 25-13 during Senior Night. The Cougars are now 5-4 in the conference, 18-14 overall.

Maria Brasel led the winners in kills with nine. Hannah Rubin had nine points and six aces. Seniors for the Cougars are Maria Brasel, Cassidy Sill, Megan Burleyson, Alexis Harpster, Katelyn Monical and Kira Engel.

Neoga was led by Nikki Miah with 11 digs, Maddie Easton with eight assists, Jaycie Roy and Lauren Romack with four kilsl each and Kacie Hotze with two blocks. Neoga drops to 4-5 in the conference, 11-21 overall.

The junior varsity also won 25-15, 25-17.

Newton picked up a victory over Paris. The Eagles won 25-9, 25-12 to improve to 20-10 on the season.

Litzelman led in kills with nine. Koebele had 17 assists. Kline and Koebele had a block each. Ka. Hardiek and Cohorst had four digs each. Ka. Hardiek led in aces with three.

Newton also won the junior varsity match 25-16, 25-16 and is 15-1.

At Oblong

Cumberland fell to Oblong in Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division play. The Pirates won the opener 25-19 but Oblong came back with 25-14, 25-17 wins.

The Pirates were led by Lainey Jackson with seven aces, Jade McMechan with 10 assists, Jade Hutchcraft with seven kills and Claire Guyon with 10 digs.

Cumberland won the junior varsity match 25-17, 19-25, 25-11.
