Newton Boys Win LIC Track Meet, Girls Second

PARIS -- Newton High School and Olney tied for the championship of the Little Illini Conference boys track meet and placed second in the girls meet Wednesday.

Newton and Olney both scored 154 points followed by Robinson 96, Casey-Westfield 47, Marshall 39, Mount Carmel 36, Paris 30 and Lawrenceville 1.

Parker Wolf claimed two victories for the Eagles. Wolf won the 200 in 22.71 seconds and the 400 in 51.99. He also finished second in the 100 in 11.14.

Jacob Wickham was also a double event winner, taking the shot with a throw of 49 feet, 2 1/2 inches and the discus at 153-3.

The 3200 relay team of Owen Mahaffey, Luis Zavala, Luke Weber and Hayden Borgic won with a time of 8:44.32 minutes. The Eagles were second in the 400 relay in 44.93 and second in the 1600 relay in 3:34.83.

In the girls meet, Robinson was the team champion with 141 points followed by Newton 123, Olney 87, Marshall 67,  Casey-Westfield 62, Mount Carmel 50, Paris 26 and Lawrenceville 1.

The 400 relay team of Addyson O'Dell, Makayla McVicar, Laney Hemrich and Morgan Schafer won in 51.89 seconds.

Brooke Schafer was a winner in the shot with a heave of 33 feet, 6 1/2 inches and took second in the discus at 87-2 1/4.

Gracie Smithenry was a champion in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
