St. Anthony, Newton Nabs Boys, Girls Track Wins

Effingham St. Anthony claimed a high school boys track meet victory with 92 points Thursday.

The Bulldogs were followed by Altamont 84, Teutopolis 41 and Effingham 27.

St. Anthony had eight first place finishes in the meet. The Bulldogs won the 3200 relay in 9:02.94 minutes and the 1600 relay in 3:45.67.

Tegler had two victories for St. Anthony with the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches and the 1600 run in 4:53.85 minutes.

Scheidemantel claimed the  3200 run in 11:56.66. Weidman captured the 800 in 2:11.36.

In field events, Smith won the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 1 inch while Sager claimed the pole vault at 10-6.

Altamont also nabbed eight first place finishes. The Indians won the 800 relay in 1:37.66.

Brewer, Moschenrose and Rhodes captured two victories each for the Indians. Brewer won the triple jump at 38-8 1/2 and the long jump with a leap of 18-6.

Moschenrose claimed the 100 in 11.56 seconds and the 200 in 23.63. Rhodes won the 110 hurdles in 17.89 and the 300 hurdles in 47.37.

Short was a winner in the 400 at 55.02 seconds.

Teutopolis picked up two victories. The Shoes won the 400 relay in 47.42 seconds and Probst was a winner in the shot with a throw of 41 feet, 1 inch.

In the girls meet, Newton was the winner with 107 points followed by Teutopolis 75, Effingham 70, St. Anthony 68 and Altamont 39.

 Newton had only four first place finishers but tallied points with seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths and sixths.

The Eagles' Hetzer was a winner in the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 1 inch. Hemrich won the 400 in 1:02.93 minutes. Yager claimed the 3200 in 14:15.27.

Newton's 1600 relay team won in 4:24.22.

Nelson captured four events for Altamont. Nelson won the long jump at 16-8, the 100 hurdles in 15.03 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 44.95 and the 200 in 25.99.

The Wooden Shoes were winners in four events. Hemmen won the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches. Vahling claimed the 100 in 12.92 seconds. Runde was a winner in the 800 in 2:42.79 and the 3200 relay team won in 11:28.19.

Both Effingham and St. Anthony were winners in three events.

The Hearts won the 400 relay in 54.12, the 800 relay in 1:56.44 and Rieman captured the high jump at 5-2.

The Bulldogs' Kibler won two events, the shot with a heave of 30 feet, 6 1/2 inches and the discus at 96-11. Vonderheide nabbed the 1600 in 6:11.98.
