Several St. Anthony, T-town Tennis Players Still Alive At State Tourney

Several Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis tennis players are still alive at the State Tennis Tournament in the Chicago area after action Thursday.

 

St. Anthony's Emily Kowalke is competing in singles play. She got in two matches, winning her opening contest, 6-4, 6-0 over Ashley Rajcevich of Wheaton St. Francis.

Kowalke then fell to Lisa Tomasi of Fairfield, 6-0, 6-0.

Kowalke faced Lily Gregary of Mattoon in the second round of consolation at Rolling Meadows and won 6-1, 7-5. She exited the tourney in the third round of consolation with a loss to Juanita Smith of Chicago Morgan Park Acdemy,  8-5.

Mia Kinkelaar and Ellie Link captured four victories. The duo won over Hannah Hevron and Anna Hargrave of Robinson, 6-0, 6-2, then downed Molly Gardiner and Alison Storm of Normal University, 7-5, 6-2. They fell to Tara Sawhney and Isabella Ji of Chicago University, 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-0.

The duo came back to win the fourth round of consolation over Katie Watts and Anna D'Aurey of troy Triad, 8-3.

They are set to compete in the fifth round of consolation against Charlotte Graham and Anna Bath Woolf of Winnetka/North Shore country Day.

Teutopolis had two singles players and two doubles teams in action Thursday.

In doubles competition, T-town's Olivia Hemmen and Anna Probst were winners in three rounds.

The pair defeated AnnaClare Keller and Lauren Emm of Bloomington Central Catholic in a tough match, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, (10-6).

The duo then easily downed Siena Shah and Saya Tanabe of Chicago Payton, 6-2, 6-0.

The pair then faced Layden Almer and Audrey Moster of LaGrange Park Nazareth Academy and won 6-0, 6-3. They then fell to Cyrstina Lee and Jane Carter of Elmhurst Timothy Christian in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-0.

They will now compete in the consolation quarterfinals.

Unfortunately, the two singles players and other doubles team for the Wooden Shoes fell out of further tourney action.

Abbie Lee lost her opener against Ruthie Manor of Highland, 6-1, 6-7 (2), (10-3) but came back to win over Allie Geiger of Elmhurst IC Catholic, 6-1, 6-3. She then exited the tourney with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Maya Jenny of Danville Schlarman.

Julia Hemmen won her opener over Lily Gregary of Mattoon, 1-6, 6-4 (10-8) but then suffered two losses to leave further tourney action. She lost to Lorenza FosterSimbulan of Glen Ellyn Glenbard South, 6-0, 6-1 then fell to Ashley Rajcevch of Wheaton St. Francis, 6-2, 6-0.

Jada Buehnerkemper and Adi Davidson lost their opener to Katie Watts and Anna D'Aunoy of Troy Triad, 6-4, 6-3 and then fell from further tourney action with a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Maria Ibba and Brylie Brands of Mount Vernon.

The State Tournament continues today and will finish out with finals Saturday.
