Effingham High School played host to Mattoon in tennis competition Monday and edged the Green Wave, 5-4.

Thad Dillow won at the No. 1 singles spot, 7-6 (4), 6-0. Ross Schaefer claimed the No. 5 position with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Cannon Bockhorn took the No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play,  Dillow and Pals combined to win, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Schaefer and Bockhorn finished with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

At Effingham

Singles

No. 1 -- Thad Dillow (E) defeated Dalton Short (M), 7-6 (4), 6-0

No. 2 -- Will Pullen (M) defeated Blayne Pals (E), 6-4, 6-2

No. 3 -- Ty Eastin (M) defeated Evan Pryor (E), 6-4, 6-0

No. 4 -- Hunter Basham (M) defeated Preston Siner (E), 7-6 (5), 7-5

No. 5 -- Ross Schaefer (E) defeated Ean Freeman (M), 6-3, 6-1

No. 6 -- Cannon Bockhorn (E) defeated Noah Lange, (M), 6-1, 6-2

Doubles

No. 1 -- Dillow-Pals (E) defeated Short-Pullen (M), 7-6 (3), 6-2

No. 2 -- Eastin-Basham (M) defeated Pryor-Siner (E), 6-3, 6-0

No. 3 -- Schaefer-Bockhorn (E) defeated Lange-Hudson (M), 6-0, 6-4

 

At Effingham

Newton edged Effingham St. Anthony by a 5-4 count Monday.

The Eagles and Bulldogs split singles victories. St. Anthony's Manaye Mossman won at No. 1, 7-6 (6), 7-5 while Evan Mossman finished at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1. Adam Rudibaugh took No. 4, 6-2, 6-0. .

Newton's Isaac Street won at No. 2, 7-6 (5), 6-2 while Alex Bigard took No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Wesley Britton won at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Ben and Isaac Street combined to win the No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-2. Mossman and Rudibaugh captured the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-4. But Newton finished with a win at No. 3 doubles as Bigard and Britton won 6-1, 6-1 for the match.

At St. Anthony

Singles

No. 1 -- Manaye Mossman (SA) defeated Ben Street (N), 7-6 (6), 7-5

No. 2 -- Isaac Street (N) defeated Aidan Tegeler (SA), 7-6 (5), 6-2

No. 3 -- Evan Mossman (SA) defeated Joano Sandoval (N), 6-0, 6-1

No. 4 -- Adam Rudibaugh (SA) defeated Isaac Kocher (N), 6-2, 6-0

No. 5 -- Alex Bigard (N) defeated Connor Eggars (SA), 6-1 ,6-0

No. 6 -- Evan Mossman (SA) defeated Joano Sandoval (N), 6-0, 6-1

Doubles

No. 1 -- B. Street-I. Street (N) defeated Tegeler-M. Mossman (SA), 6-2, 6-2

No. 2 -- E. Mossman-Rudibaugh (SA) defeated Sandoval-Kocher (N), 6-3, 6-4

No. 3 -- Bigard-Britton (N) defeated Eggars-Fallert (SA), 6-1, 6-1

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis easily handled Greenville by a 9-0 count Monday.

The Wooden Shoes' Kolten Tabbert, Colin Habing and Oliver Lee were 6-0, 6-0 winners in singles. Carter Davidson won 6-1, 6-3 while Myles Stortzum reversed the score and won 6-3, 6-1. Noah Thompson finished out the singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

In doubles play, Tabbert and Habing were 6-1, 6-1 winners at No. 1. No. 2 went to Lee and Thompson, 6-2, 6-2. Davidson and Stortzum captured the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 7-5.

At Teutopolis
