Bulldogs Win, Hearts Fall In Tennis Action

Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 7-2 win over Champaign St. Thomas More in tennis competition Thursday.

The Bulldogs swept through doubles play. Manaye Mossman and Aiden Tegeler combined to win at No. 1, 6-2, 6-0. Evan Mossman and Connor Eggers were winners at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. The No. 3 spot went to Ada Rudebaugh and Caleb Twohey, 6-1, 6-4.

In singles action, M. Mossman blanked his opponent at the top spot, 6-0, 6-0. E. Mossman took No. 3, also blanking his opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Adam Rudebaugh claimed the No. 4 spot, also 6-0, 6-0. St. Anthony finished out with a win at No. 6 as Matt Herzing won in a tough-fought battle, 3-6, 6-2, 10-2.

"It was nice but windy," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "It got cold by the last match."

At Champaign

No. 2 -- Hunter Madigan (STM) defeated Aiden Tegeler (SA), 7-5, 6-3

No. 4 -- Adam Rudebaugh (SA) defeated Cale Quiren (STM), 6-0, 6-0

No. 5 -- Jack McMahan (STM) defeated Connor Eggers (SA), 7-6 (6), 6-1

No. 5 -- Matt Herzing (SA) defeated Oliver Kalong (STM), 3-6, 6-2, 10-2

Doubles

No. 1 -- M. Mossman-Tegeler (SA) defeated Thope-Madigan (STM), 6-2, 6-0

No. 2 -- E. Mossman-Eggers (SA) defeated Moore-Quiren (STM), 6-1, 6-0

No. 3 -- Rudebaugh-Caleb Twohey (SA) defeated McMahan-Kalong (STM), 6-1, 6-4

 

At Effingham

Salem came to Effingham and handed the Hearts a 7-2 loss Thursday.

The two points for the Hearts came at No. 1 singles as Thad Dillow won, 6-1, 6-0.

Dillow then combined with Blayne Pals to capture the No. 1 doubles spot, 6-0, 6-4.
