Rafael Nadal, the defending champion and number one seed, lost to American MacKenzie McDonald in Day 3 of the Australian Open.

Nadal appeared to be hobbling from a hip injury near the end of the second set. McDonald, who has never cracked the top 40 in the ATP rankings, beat Nadal 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in just two hours and 32 minutes.

Coco Gauff defeated Emma Raducanu 6-3, 7-6, in the second round at the Australian Open. Gauff is now undefeated in seven matches this year. She won the ASB Classic in Auckland earlier in the month.
