Naomi Osaka won her first-round match as the U.S. Open got underway on Monday, playing in her first major since pulling out of the French Open in May after the first round, citing mental health concerns, and then skipping Wimbledon.

Osaka, who is the reigning U.S. Open champion, defeated 87th-ranked Marie Bouzkova in straight sets.

Other winners Monday included Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, and Americans Sloane Stephens and Coco Gauff.
