EHS, T-town Claim Tennis Wins, St. A Falls

Effingham High School blanked Robinson 9-0 in tennis competition Monday.

The Hearts swept through singles play easily. Thad Dillow was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1. Blayne Pals took the second match, 6-2, 6-1. Preston Siner lost the opener at No. 3, 7-5 but came back strong with a 6-1 count and won the match 10-6.

Evan Pryor was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 4 while Dane Seiler took No. 5, 6-2, 6-0. Isaiah Rubin went 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.

In doubles play, Dillow and Pals combined to win 6-1, 6-0. Siner and Pryor partnered for an exciting 7-6 (7), 2-6, 10-7 victory. Seiler and Rubin were easy winners at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0.

At Effingham

Singles

No. 5 -- Dane Seiler (E) defeated Cody Waggoner (R), 6-2, 6-0

No. 6 -- Isaiah Rubin (E) defeated Cash Veteto (R), 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 -- Siner-Pryor (E) defeated Gower-Pinkston (R), 7-6 (7), 2-6, 10-7

No. 3 -- Seiler-Rubin (E) defeated Waggoner-Veteto (R), 6-1, 6-0

 

At Teutopolis

The match was a shortened contest with five singles and two doubles but a win is a win as Newton edged Teutopolis, 4-3.

Ben Street blanked his opponent at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Issac Kocher won 7-5, 6-1.

T-town took the next two singles contests. Carter Davidson won 7-5, 6-2 and Myles Stortzum went 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) to win.

Newton's Kenny Hartke finished out singles play at No. 5 with a 6-1, 7-6 victory.

In doubles, Street and Hartke combined to win 6-4, 6-4 for the Eagles. T-town then took the second match when Ethan Thoele and Kolton Tabbert won 6-4, 6-1.

At Teutopolis

Singles

No. 1 -- Ben Street (N) defeated Hayden Jansen (TT), 6-0, 6-0

No. 2 -- Issac Kocher (N) defeated Gus Siemer (TT), 7-5, 6-1

No. 3 -- Carter Davidson (TT) defeated Kayden Schackmann (N), 7-5, 6-2

No. 4 -- Myles Stortzum (TT) defeated Adam Zumbahlen (N), 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3)

No. 5 -- Kenny Hartke (N) defeated Ryder Vahling (TT), 6-1, 7-6

Doubles

No. 1 -- Street-Hartke (N) defeated Josh Habing-Paul Niemerg (TT), 6-4, 6-4

No. 2 -- Ethan Thoele-Kolten Tabbert (TT) defeated Kocher-Schackmann (N), 6-4, 6-1

 

At St. Anthony

Mount Zion downed Effingham St. Anthony, 8-0 in Monday action.

The Braves swept through singles play as Lane Fehrenbacher was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 1. Will Shade took the second contest, 6-3, 6-1. Riley Gower won 6-0, 6-3 while Riley Renfro took a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Devon Hill won 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Shade and Gower combined for 6-0, 6-3 victories. Frances Valesco and Fehrenbacher won 6-0, 6-0. Renfro and Hill won 6-4, 6-1.

The Bulldogs were missing their No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, Noah Tegeler and Henry Kemme.

At St. Anthony
