Teutopolis Places Third at Mattoon Tennis Invitational

MATTOON -- Teutopolis High School finished third in the Mattoon Tennis Invitational Saturday.

Mount Zion won with 37 1/2 points followed by Mattoon 36 1/2, Teutopolis 35, Casey-Westfield 33 1/2, Champaign St. Thomas More 23, Olney 21,  Rantoul 12, Charleston 9, Mattoon JV 9, Effingham 7 1/2, Shelbyville 6, Mount Zion JV 3 and Salem 0.

"The whole team did well," said T-town Coach Kaye Kimpling. "The final results were so close that wins in our final doubles matches would have won the tournament for us. But, we just fell short in some hard fought matches. The girls all did great. The first round was shortened to a Fast4 format only because of a 10 o'clock start instead of an 8 o'clock start because of rain."

Alli Brumelve and Diana Mossman captured second place in the No. 2 doubles.

Audra Breer finished third at No. 1 singles while Julie Hardiek took third at No. 2 and Nicole Deters was also third at No. 3. Lauren Hemmen and Sidney Brumleve finished fourth at No. 1 doubles.

Emilee Mossman finished tied for fifth at the No. 1 singles. Maryann Saba and Megan Hodge finished tied for fifth at No. 3 doubles.
