EHS Sweeps AC Doubleheader, St. A, Dieterich, WSS Capture Softball Victories

Effingham High School swept an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader Thursday.

The Hearts were offensively motivated with 19 hits in the opener and 14 in the second game.

Charleston opened with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in the opener. But the Hearts came right back to take the lead with three runs and never looked back, scoring eight in the second inning for the 12-5 victory.

Raegan Boone had four hits in the contest with three singles and a double. She tallied one RBI. Ryley Engel finished with two singles, a double and two RBI while Jerzi  Bierman nailed a double, triple and had an RBI. Natalie Armstrong and Alyssa Martin had a single, double and an RBI each while Sidney Donaldson and Bria Beals had two singles and two RBI each. Mya Harvey added a single and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Armstrong went the distance on the mound, giving up five runs on seven hits, two walks while striking out five.

The Hearts then finished the doubleheader with an 11-1 win in five innings via the 10-run rule.

Saige Althoff threw a one-hitter with two walks and two strikeouts.

Harvey and Engel provided the big hitting punch with a single, two home runs and two RBI each. Armstrong added a home run and two RBI. Donaldson had a single, double and an RBI and Martin two singles. Boone and Bierman finished with a single and an RBI each and Tessa Raddatz added an RBI.

The Hearts will be back in action Saturday, weather permitting, at the Robinson Invitational Tournament.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony blanked Altamont, 5-0 in Thursday action.

The two teams went scoreless through the first two innings before the Bulldogs scored three runs in the third. St. Anthony tacked on two more in the sixth.

The Bulldogs had only two hits, a home run and two RBI by Abbie Hatton and a single by Hailey Niebrugge. Laney Coffin finished with two RBI.

Sydney Kibler was the winner on the mound for St. Anthony. She went four innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Addie Wernsing came on to throw the final three innings, allowing no hits and striking out seven.

Altamont finished with four hits led by Claire Boehm with two singles. Sophia Pearcy and Peyton Osteen added a single each.

Grace Lemke allowed only two hits and struck out 14 but suffered the loss on the mound. She gave up five walks and Altamotn committed two errors.

At St. Elmo

Dieterich pounded out 15 hits and scored 19 runs in a 19-3 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons and Eagles scored a run each in the first inning. Dieterich then broke loose with an eight-run third and finished the game in the fifth via the 10-runr ule.

Ella Kreke had a single, two doubles and an RBI while Kinley Will had two doubles and three RBI and Kinli Michl finished with two doubles and an RBI. E. Meinhart had a single, double and two RBI, Lucie Jansen a single, double and an RBI, E. Meinhart two singles and three RBI, Sammi Goebel a double and an RBI and Callie Faller a single and two RBI.

Faller was the winner on the mound. She went two innings allowing one run on two hits, three walks and striking out one. Kreke came on in the third and went three innings, giving up two runs on four hits, three walks and striking out one.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Dayana Haslett with a triple, Leila Wright two singles, Taylor Claycomb a single and an RBI and Camila Haslett added an RBI.

At Strasburg

Samantha Hayes threw a one-hitter as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg blanked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 10-0 in five innings Thursday.

Hayes allowed one hit, no walks and struck out 10.

Meanwhile, the Hachets had 10 hits led by Cameron Carey with a double, triple and two RBI, Alaira Friese with a double, Erin Althoff with two singles and an RBI and S. Hayes with a single and two RBI.

WSS edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then added on three runs in the second and fifth, one in the third and two in the fourth.

CHBC's one hit was a single by Macee Rodman. The Bobcats committed four errors.

At Strasburg

Villa Grove moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead and went on to beat Cumberland, 8-3 Thursday.

Villa Grove tallied two in the third, four in the sixth and one in the seventh behind 13 hits.

Cumberland finished with 10 hits. Avery Donsbach had a double and an RBI while Lib McGinnis added three singles and an RBI. Noraa Cross finished with a double and Jade Carr two singles. Katie Kingery had a single and an RBI.

At Toledo

At Robinson

Newton edged Robinson 6-5 in a Thursday contest despite being outhit.

The Eagles trailed Robinson 5-2 after six innings then tallied four runs in the top of the seventh for the victory.

Newton had nine hits led by Audrie Reich with three singles and two RBI, Lexie Grove with a single, double and two RBI, Lilly Kessler with two singles and Bailee Frichtl and Allie Hermann with a single and an RBI each.

Avery Mulvey started the game and went 2.2 innings, allowng four runs on six hits, one walk and one strikeout. Amelia Collins went the final 4.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits, and striking out five.
