Hearts Win Big, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham High School put together a 15-5 victory over Marshall in five softball innings Thursday.

The Hearts ripped out to a 10-0 opening inning lead. EHS finished with six errors but banged out 15 hits in the contest.

Sidney Donaldson led the way with a double, two home runs and four RBI while Natalie Armstrong had two home runs and three RBI. Madi Kirk had two singles, a double and an RBI, Ryley Engel a single, double and an RBI, Raegan Boone two singles and two RBI, Jerzi Bierman a double and two RBI and Mya Harvey a double.

Saige Althoff went the distance on the mound. She struck out 10, allowed five runs on six hits and one walk.

At Altamont

Altamont came through with a three-run fifth to pull out a 5-3 victory over Richland County Thursday.

Grace Lemke provided the pitching win. She kept Richland County off the basepaths with 19 strikeouts and allowed only four walks and three hits.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-0 after two. Richland County came back with a run in the third.

Altamont then had a three-run inning and held off Richland County in the final frame.

Sophia Pearcy had  a double while Laila Hankins had two singles and two RBI. Madison Tonn added a single and drove in two runs and Lemke had a single and an RBI.

At Neoga

Taegan Webster and Lauren Johnson combined to throw a no-hitter as South Central blanked Neoga 16-0 in four innings Thursday.

The Cougars pushed into a 2-0 opening inning lead, scored three in the second, four in the third and seven in the fourth.

Webster went three innings for the win, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks while striking out nine. Johnson came on in the final inning allowing one walk and striking out one.

Webster aided her own cause with a single, double, triple and six RBI. Zoey Feldhake had a single, double and two RBI, Kaitlyn Swift two singles and two RBI, Amelia Montes a double and an RBI and Kinlee Thompson a double. Johnson added a single and an RBI.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis blanked Vandalia 15-0 in four innings Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then tallied five in the second, five in the third and ended the game with three in the fourth.

T-town had eight hits and was aided by six Vandalia errors.

The Shoes were led by Chloe Hoene with a triple and three RBI, Malea Helmink with a single, double and an RBI, Kayleigh Zerrusen with a double and two RBI, Olivia Copple with a single, double and an RBI and Olivia Wermet with a single and an RBI.

Helmink won on the mound, going four innings, allowing no runs on three hits, two walks while striking out seven.

At Teutopolis

St. Elmo/Brownstown outhit North Clay/Clay City by a 14-12 count and picked up a 14-6 victory Thursday.

The Cardinals held a 2-1 opening inning lead but SEB came back with a five-run third and went on for the victory.

Dezarae Morlan had two singles, a double and three RBI to lead the offensive attack. Taylor Claycomb added two singles and two RBI while Jayna Ireland and Dayana Haslett added two singles and an RBI each. Alivia Claycomb finished with a single and an RBI.

Haslett went the seven innings on the mound, allowing six runs on 12 hits, four walks and striking out two.

North Clay/Clay City was led by Mallory Boose with two singles, a triple and two RBI, Faith Jones a single, double and an RBI and Lauryn Snell a double and two RBI.

Windsor/;Stewarsdon-Strasburg took a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-0 after three. But Villa Grove tied the score in the fourth.

However, the Hatchets went into the sixth and scored nine runs and never looked back in an 11-3 victory Thursday.

Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with 11 hits, five of those for extra bases. Alaira Friese had a single, two doubles and two RBI while Samantha Hayes had two singles, a triple and two RBI. Erin Althoff added a single, double and three RBI and Kendra Hayes a single, double and an RBI.

S. Hayes went the distance, allowing three runs on eight hits, no walks and striking out four.

At Strasburg

Newton didn't score until the sixth inning but that's all the runs it needed in a 3-1 victory over Edwards County (Albion) Thursday.

Both teams had five hits in the contest. The Eagles were led by Avery Mulvey with a double and two RBI. The other four hits were singles by four players.

Amelia Collins went seven innings on the mound, allowing one run on five hits, one walk, while keeping Edwards County off the bases with 10 strikeouts.

Dieterich was a scoring machine Thursday in a 14-0 victory over Martinsville.

The Movin' Maroons stepped out to a 7-0 opening inning lead then tallied a run in the fourth and ended the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule with six.

Dieterich's Ella Kreke, E. Meinhart and Kinli Michl led the way in the hitting department. Kreke had two singles, a triple and two RBI while Michl had double, home run and three RBI. E. Meinhart added two singles, a double and three RBI. E. Meinhart had a single, double and an RBI and Kinley Will two singles and an RBI.

Callie Faller went four innings for the win, allowing no runs on four hits, one walk and striking out four.
