Bulldogs Win Twice, T-town 2-2, Softball Roundup

MULBERRY GROVE -- Effingham St. Anthony High School competed in the Mulberry Grove Softball Round Robin and won both games it played Saturday.

In the opener, the Bulldogs blanked host Sullivan, 8-0 behind a 10-hit attack. St. Anthony took a 4-0 opening inning lead and never looked back.

Sydney Kibler hit a home run and fnished with two RBI while Addie Wernsing hit a triple and had an RBI. Laney Coffin had a single and double while Julia Schultz had two singles and an RBI. Hailey Niebrugge, Ady Rios and Abbie Hatton had a single and an RBI each.

Nancy Ruholl threw a four-hitter with one walk and two strikeouts for the win on the mound.

St. Anthony then edged Mulberry Grove, 4-3. St. Anthony held a 1-0 lead after two innings, but Mulberry Grove moved ahead 3-1 in the top fo the third. St. Anthony tallied a run in the fourth then scored two runs in the sixth for the victory.

The Bulldogs had seven hits led by Abby Hatton with a solo home run, S. Kibler with two singles, a double and three RBI and Stacie Vonderheide with a single and double.

S. Kibler came on in the sixth inning to pick up the pitching win. She allowed no runs on one hit, one walk and struck out two.

At Fairfield

Teutopolis played four games at the Fairfield Lady Mules Spring Swing. The Wooden Shoes fell in the opener against Edwards County (Albion) 3-2. All the games went five innings.

T-town held a 2-0 lead until the third when Edwards County tied the score then tallied a run in the fourth for the victory.

Chloe Hoene led the way in hitting with a single and double.

In the second contest, T-town blanked Benton, 9-0 in four innings.

The Shoes' Olivia Hemmen allowied no runs on two hits, two walks and struck out three.

T-town had four hits led by Mallory Bloemer with a single, double and three RBI, Malea Helmink with two singles and Cecilia Apke with an RBI.

The Wooden Shoes then edged Norris City-Omaha-Enfield, 7-6.

NCOE held a 4-0 lead after the first inning. T-town started coming back with single runs in the third and fourth then had a five-run fifth. NCOE scored two in the bottom of the fifth but the Shoes held on for the victory.

Olivia Copple led the Shoes in hitting with two singles and two RBI and Olivia Wermert with a double.

In game four, Fairfield edged T-town, 3-2. The Mules scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings. T-town's two runs came in the bottom of the fifth.

T-town had a 7-2 hitting edge. Copple had a single, triple and two RBI

In a Friday contest, Mount Zion was an 18-2 winner over T-town in six innings.

The Braves broke a 2-2 opening inning tie with a run in the second, then added on five in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth.

T-town had seven hits but committed five errors. The Shoes were led by Apke with a single, double and an RBI and Copple with two singles.

Dieterich hosted Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and captured an 8-5 victory Friday.

The Movin' Maroons took a 4-0 opening inning lead and added on a run in the second and three more in the fourth.

Dieterich had nine hits led by Lucie Jansen with a home run and three RBI, Kinli Michl with a single, double and an RBI, E. Meinhart with two singles and an RBI and Marli Michl with a double and an RBI.

CHBC was led by Ryleigh Sarver with a single, double and two RBI and Addison Wasson with a triple.

Cumberland had eight hits and handed Paris a 6-2 loss in Friday play.

The Pirates took a 3-0 lead in the third inning then tacked on two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Jade Carr led the way in hitting with four singles. She scored two runs and had three stolen bases. Jennifer Hougham had a double

Mia Holsapple picked up the win, going seven innings, allowing five hits, two walks and striking out seven.
