Jasper Co., South Central Headed To State Softball Tourneys

TOLEDO -- Jasper County edged Casey-Westfield 4-3 to win the Class 2A Cumberland Softball Sectional Saturday.

Casey-Westfield edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and led 3-2 after three innings. The game went into the bottom of the seventh with Jasper County still trailing by a run.

That's when the Eagles rallied, scoring two runs to pull out the victory.

Jasper County had seven hits led by Jacee Dhom with three singles, Jeorgia Reich with two singles and an RBI and Paige Wagner with a single and an RBI.

Lexie Ghast threw a five-hitter. She didn't allow a walk and struck out nine.

Jasper County is still sporting a perfect record at 15-0.

The squad will head to the Class 2A State Tournament at Champion Fields in Normal Friday for a 1:30 p.m. contest.

Jasper County will square off against Monticello (14-5) at 2 p.m.

At St. Elmo

South Central blanked Paris Crestwood, 2-0 to win the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Sectional Saturday in a pitcher's duel.

The Falcons scored the lone two runs of the contest in the second inning.

Both teams tallied only one hit but Crestwood committed five errors to one for the Falcons.

Maddie Peddicord threw the one hitter for the win on the mound. She struck out 15 batters in the contest and allowed four walks.

L. Stevens was the loser on the mound, allowing two runs on one hit, one walk while striking out six.

Kennon Hiestand had the lone hit for South Central with a single.

South Central improved to 18-2 on the season and will heads to the Class 1A State Tournament at Champions Fields in Normal Friday.

The Falcons (15-0) will take on Monticello (14-5) at 2 p.m.
