Effingham St. Anthony won the battle of the Cross Creek Classic in girls softball action Friday. The Bulldogs defeated Teutopolis by an 11-0 count in six innings.

Lucy Fearday threw a one-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts for the pitching win.

Both teams were quiet in the opening inning before the Bulldogs edged ahead 1-0 in the second. St. Anthony then talied one in the fourth, three in the fifth and fnished the contest with six in the sixth.

The Bulldogs finished with 15 hits in the contest. Hailey Niebrugge led with a double, triple and three RBI while Addie Wernsing had three singles and two RBI. Sydney Kibler finished with a solo home run. Cameran Rios, Stacie Vonderheide and Lucy Fearday had two singles each. Vonderheide and Fearday finished with an RBI each.

T-town's lone hit, a single was off the bat of Malea Helmink.

Fearday picked up the victory on the mound, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out nine.

In a Saturday contest, St. Anthony blanked Paris by a 7-0 count.

The Bulldogs' Fearday went five innings on the mound, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out three for the win. Kibler came on to finish out the final two innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out three.

The Bulldogs banged out 10 hits led by KIbler with two singles and a double, Faber with a single, double and three RBI , A. Rios with a single and two RBI and C. Rios and Vonderheide with a single and an RBI each.

At Charleston

Effingham and Charleston split an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader Friday.

The Hearts blanked Charleston 15-0 in five innings in the opener. EHS had an eight-run second to start the scoring.

EHS finished with a whopping 20 hits in the contest. Seven players had two or more hits. Sidney Donaldson had a double, triple and two RBI while Abby Cunningham had four singles and two RBI. Riley Cunningham added three singles and two RBI and Natalie Armstrong had a single, double and two RBI. Raegan Boone added two singles and two RBI amd Jerzi Bierman two singles.

N. Armstrong went the distance on the mound, giving up no runs on three hits, three walks and striking out four.

In the second contest, Effingham still hit the ball well, but the Trojans came back to take a 9-8 win.

The Hearts had 11 hits in the contest and opened with a 5-1 lead in the second inning. Charleston came back with three in the third but EHS held an 8-4 lead in the top of the sixth. Charleston tallied four in the bottom of the frame to tie the score then got the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh.

Mya Harvey had a single, home run and two RBI for the Hearts while R. Cunningham had a single, double and an RBI. N. Armstrong had two singles and an RBI and Jennifer Jamison two singles. A. Cunningham had a single and two RBI.

In a Saturday contest, the Hearts fell to Robinson by a 6-4 count.

The Maroons edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead. The Hearts came back with a run in the fourth and moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth. But Robinson came back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth for the win.

EHS had seven hits led by Donaldson with a single, double and an RBI, R. Cunningham with a double and an RBI, Jamison with a triple and Boone with a single and two RBI.

South Central hosted Salem and fell to the Wildcats by a 3-0 score Friday.

Salem held a 1-0 first inning lead and tacked on two more in the fifth behind seven hits.

South Central finished with three hits, all singles by Kaitlyn Swift, Taegan Webster and Kinlee Thompson.

The Cougars fell to 17-7 on the season and is back in action today at the National Trail Conference Tournament against Cowden-Herric/Beecher City at 6 .m.

Woodlawn played host to Clay City/North Clay and blanked the visitors by a 10-0 count in five innings Friday.

Woodlawn edged out to a 2-0 first ining lead, tacked on single runs in the second and fourth and finished with six in the fifth.

Clay City/North Clay had two hits, both singles by Morgan Hance.

CC/NC dropped to 5-6 on the season and is back in action today against Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in the MIdland Trail Conference Tournament at 4:30 p.m.

Conference Tournaments Open

The National Trail Conference Tournament will open play at Evergreen Hollow Park today.

Drewing the top seed was Effingham St. Anthony followed by Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, South Central, Dieterich, Altamont, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and St. Elmo/Brownstown.

Today's games includes Dieterich against Altamont and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg vs. St. Elmo/Brownstown, both at 4:15 p.m. and South Central facing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6.

The tournament continues Wednesday and will finish out with the finals Friday.

The Midland trail Conference Tournament opens with one game today, Cisne at Webber Township (Bluford) at 4:30 p.m. The tourney continues Tuesday and Wednseday and finishes out Friday with the finals.

The higher seed is the home team in all games. Drawing the No. 1 seed was Odin followed by Woodlawn, Waltonville, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Clay City/North Clay, Grayville, Wayne City, Webber Township and Cisne.
