Salem Hands Effingham Softball Loss

SALEM -- Effingham High School traveled to Salem and fell to the homestanding Wildcats, 12-3 in softball action Wednesday.

Salem edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead. The Hearts came back to move ahead 3-2 in the top of the second but that didn't last long.

The Wildcats had a six-run bottom of the second, then tallied three in the fourth and one more in the sixth.

Effingham had nine hits in the contest led by Sidney Donaldson with a single, double and an RBI, Jerzi Bierman with two singles and Bria Beals with a single and two RBI.

The Hearts committed four errors.

Salem had 13 hits in the contest with four of those for extra bases. Makenna Smith had a double, home run and four RBI while Olivia Paulson had two singles, a double and an RBI. Breanna Thurman had a double. Lilly Blagoue had two singles and two RBI and Jaelyn Keller two singles and an RBI.

Smith picked up the win, going all seven ininngs, allowing three runs, nine hits, one walk and striking out two.
