Cumberland Beats Dieterich In Softball

TOLEDO -- Cumberland High School was on offensively in taking a 9-2 victory over Dieterich in girls softball competition Wednesday.

The Pirates put together 13 hits that included seven extra base hits and finished with seven RBI.

Cumberland edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then tallied two in the second. Dieterich pulled within 3-2 in the fourth but Cumberland came back with five runs in the fifth and a final run in the sixth.

The Pirates were led by Jenna Houghman with a double and triple, Noraa Cross with a single, triple and an RBI, Isabel Martinez with a triple and an RBI, Ashton Coleman and Katie Kingery with a double and an RBI each, Chaney Thornton with a double and Jade Carr with two singles and two RBI. Natalie Beaumont added a single and drove in a run.

Callie Lewis went the distance on the mound, allowing four hits, one walk while striking out seven.

Dieterich was led offensively by Luci Jansen and Heaven Kinnison with a double each. Allie Uthell had a single and an RBI and Eva Meinhart added an RBI.
