EHS Beats Altamont, T-town, Dieterich Take Softball Wins

Effingham High School edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and went on for a 10-2 victory over Altamont in high school softball action Tuesday.

The Indians tied in the top of the second but the Hearts came back to score two in the bottom of the frame, one in the third, two in the fourth and finished off with four in the sixth.

The Hearts had 10 hits in the contest led by Grace Bushur with three doubles and three RBI, Abby Cunningham with a single, double and an RBI, Jennifer Jamison added a triple and an RBI and Sidney Donaldson a double and an RBI.

Saige Althoff threw a four-hitter allowing three walks while striking out eight in going the distance on the mound.

Altamont was led in hitting by Ellie McManaway with two singles.

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis banged out 11 hits as they took an 8-5 victory over Marshall Tuesday.

Marshall held a 3-0 first inning lead and held that lead until the fifth inning. T-town came back with two in the third but the Lions moved ahead 5-2 in the top of the fifth. But the lead was short-lived as the Wooden Shoes retaliated with a six-run fifth to pull out the win.

Kaylee Niebrugge had three singles and an RBI for the Shoes while Daisha Piedra had a single, double and three RBI. Courtney Gibson had a triple and an RBI. Erin Althoff, Estella Mette and Olivia Copple had a single and an RBI each.

Jordan Goeckner was the winner on the mound, going five innings allowing five runs on eight hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Gibson came on to finish out the final two innings with two strikeouts.

At Cowden

Dieterich came calling and ended this contest in the fourth inning by a 16-1 count Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons had 12 hits and were aided by six CHBC errors.

Kaitlyn Boerngen led the way for Dieterich with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Eva Meinhart had a single, double and two RBI while Ruby Westendorf added two singles and two RBI. Courtney Brummer chipped in with two singles and an RBI. Lucie Jansen and Megan Bierman had a double each. Jansen added an RBI. Ella Kreke had a single and an RBI and Marli Michl an RBI.

Boerngen went the four innings, allowing one run on two hits, no walks and striking out four.

CHBC was led by Marissa Summers and Macee Rodman with a single each.

At Newton

Newton held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning when Mount Carmel scored two and then tacked on two more in the sixth for a 4-1 victory Tuesday.

The Golden Aces had a seven-hit contest with three doubles.

Newton had four hits led by Kayla "Kocher" Kocher with a single and double. Camryn Martin had an RBI.

Kocher suffered the loss on the mound, going all seven innings, allowing seven hits, two walks and striking out six.
