EHS Wins Apollo Doubleheader, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham High School handed Lincoln an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader loss Saturday.

The Hearts edged Lincoln 7-6 in the opener. The score was 0-0 until the fifth when EHS tallied six runs. Lincoln came back to tie the score in the top of the seventh.

EHS tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Hearts had nine hits led by Riley Cunningham with two singles and two RBI and Sidney Donaldson and Mya Harvey with two singles and an RBI each. Madi Kirk added an RBI.

Saige Althoff picked up the win in the mound, going all seven innings allowing six runs on six hits, four walks while striking out seven.

In the second contest, Effingham held a 3-1 lead after three innings. Lincoln moved ahead 6-5 after four but the Hearts tied in the fifth. The Railsplitters moved ahead 7-6 in the top of the sixth but the Hearts came right back with two in the bottom of the frame and held on for the 8-7 victory.

EHS pounded out 13 hits in the contest led by Harvey with two singles and two RBI and R. Cunningham with a single, double and an RBI. Grace Bushur, Donaldson and Dailyn Dunston had two singles and an RBI each. Abby Cunningham and Saige Althoff had a single and an RBI each.

Saige Althoff was the winning pitcher again going all seven frames, allowing seven runs on eight hits, one walk and six strikeouts.

At Neoga

Neoga stepped out to a 4-2 opening inning lead over Dieterich Friday and ended up fighting off the Movin' Maroons to pull out an 7-6 victory.

The Indians were outhit by Dieterich by a 10-5 count. Leading Neoga was Avery Fearday with two singles and an RBI. Caitlyn Sparling added a single and an RBI while Haylee Campbell added an RBI.

Dieterich was led by Courtney Brummer with a single, home run and an RBI, Kaitlyn Boerngen with two singles and a double, Lucie Jansen with a double and two RBI and Marli Michl and Eva Meinhart with a double and an RBI each. Ruby Westendorf added a double.

Andrea Burcham was the winner on the mound going six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, two walks and striking out two.

At Neoga

At Newton

Newton was a winner twice while Teutopolis claimed one victory in the Newton Round Robin Friday.

Newton downed Teutopolis 11-1 in five innings. The Eagles stepped out to a 6-1 opening inning lead and finished with 10 hits in the contest.

Amber Russell had a single, double and triple with four RBI for the winners. Kayla "Kocher" Kocher added a triple and two RBI and Addy O'Dell and Bailee Frichtl had a double and an RBI each.

T-town was led by Erin Althoff with a double and Kaylee Niebrugge with a single and an RBI.

Newton tallied an 8-3 win over Plymouth. The Eagless ran out to a 4-0 opening inning lead and never looked back.

The Eagles had seven hits and were aided by five Plymouth errors.

Camryn Martin led the way with a single, triple and an RBI. O'Dell added two singles. Allie Stanley had two RBI and "Kocher" had a single and an RBI.

"Kocher" picked up her second pitching win. She went three innings allowing no runs on no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Teutopolis pounded Champaign Central, 13-3 in five innings. The Wooden Shoes held a 3-0 opening inning lead then led 7-3 after two. T-town tacked on two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to end the contest.

The Wooden Shoes hit the long ball with three home runs. Daisha Piedra hit a single, home run and drove in three while Courtney Gibson had a home run and two RBI. Olivia Copple had a single and a solo home run. Althoff finished with three singles and two RBI. Danielle Sarchet added a single and an RBI while Summer Wallace and Emily Konkel had an RBI each.

Jordan Goeckner went five innings allowing three runs on seven hits, two walks and striking out three.

At Kinmundy

South Central played host to a round robin Saturday.

The Cougars fell in the opener against Edwards County (Albion), 15-13.

Edwards County outhit South Central by a 16-7 count and the Cougars had five errors. Kyra Swift had ttwo doubles and two RBI for the Cougars. Brooklyn Garrett had two singles and three RBI.

In the second contest, Edwards County (Albion) won over Arcola, 12-5.

South Central then downed Arcola, 3-1.

The Cougars stepped out to a 2-0 opening inning lead and tacked on the third run in the fourth. Arcola scored its lone run in the fourth.

Laney Webster led he way offensively with a single, triple, home run and two RBI while Ella Watwood had a single and double.

South Central is now 13-6 on the season.
