St. Anthony, Dieterich, T-town, S. Central Win in Softball

NEOGA -- Effingham St. Anthony took a nine run opening inning lead and that was the game as the Bulldogs defeated Neoga, 17-2 in four innings of high school softball Tuesday.

The Bulldogs had 16 hits in the contest, seven of those the extra base kind. Madeline Kibler had a double, triple and an RBI while Grace Karolewicz had two singles, a double and two RBI. Adysen Rios had a single, double and two RBI while Anna Faber had a triple and an RBI. Lucy Fearday and Cameran Rios chipped in with a double each. Kenzie Kabbes added two singles and an RBI. Addie Wernsing finished with a single and two RBI. Stacie Vonderheide and Abbie Hatton had a single and an RBI each.

Fearday was the winning pitcher, going one inning, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. Wernsing came in to throw the final three innings, allowing two runs on two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Neoga's Trista Moore had two singles and Avery Fearday a single and an RBI.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-2 on the season and return to action Thursday hosting Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m.

At Clay City

Dieterich came calling and picked up a 9-3 victory over North Clay/Clay City Tuesday.

North Clay/Clay City held a 1-0 lead in the third inning. But the Movin' Maroons tallied four runs in the top of the fifth and led 5-3 after five. Dieterich then scored two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.

The Maroons had 10 hits led by Lucie Jansen with a single, home run and one RBI. Courtney Brummer had a triple and two RBI. Estella Meinhart had a double and drove in a run. Marli Michl and Kaitlyn Boerngen had two singles each.

Boerngen was the winning pitcher allowing three runs on three hits, five walks while striking out 11.

North Clay/Clay City had three hits, all singles by Kirstin Allen, Hannah Kramer-McKinney and Mallory Jones. The squad dropped to 2-4 on the season.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis opened with a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to bounce Tuscola by a 13-3 count in six innings Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes had 13 hits in the contest led by Daisha Piedra with two singles, a double and four RBI while Courtney Gibson had two singles, a double and three RBI. Kaylee Niebrugge added two singles and an RBI.

Courtney Gibson went the six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

Tuscola committed five errors.

At Kinmundy

South Central trounced Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in four innings by a 17-2 count Tuesday.

The Cougars stepped out to a 6-1 opening inning lead then tallied three in the second and ended the game with eight in the third.

Laney Webster threw a three-hitter for the win on the mound.

The Cougars had 11 hits led by Kyra Swift with a single, double and two RBI. Kaitlyn Swift added a triple and an RBI. Abi Shuler chipped in with two singles and three RBI. Brooklyn Garrett added two singles and two RBI. Bryleigh Timmons had a double.

South Central improved to 10-5 on the season and returns to action today against Ramsey, weather permitting.

At Charleston

Charleston stepped out to the early lead and went on to blank Altamont, 16-0 in four innings Tuesday.

Charleston's Karah Moore picked up the win on the mound, going three innings allowing one walk and striking out seven.

The Trojans had three home runs in the contest, two by Moore with seven RBI and Kailyn Wilson a solo homer.

The lone hit for Altamont was a single by Peyton Osteen.
