EHS, Newton, T-town, S. Central, Altamont Nab Softball Wins

The Hearts broke a 1-1 opening inning tie and produced seven runs in the second and went on for an 11-3 victory over Cumberland.
EHS had 16 hits and was aided by six Pirate errors. Abby Cunningham led the way offensively with two singles, a double and two RBI. Sydney Donaldson had three singles and an RBI, Grace Bushue had two singles and an RBI, Riley Cunningham and Mya Harvey a double and an RBI each, Saige Althoff two singles and two RBI and Sawyer Althoff two singles.
Cumberland was led by Avery Donsbach with a single, double and an RBI and Libby McGinnis with a double and an RBI.
Saige Althoff was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing one run on two hits, two walks and a strikeout.
The Hearts then headed to Mount Zion for an Apollo Conference doubleheader Saturday.
The Braves edged EHS 8-7 in the opener. Mount Zion tallied one in the first. EHS came back with three in the top of the second but the Braves moved ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the frame. EHS held a 7-4 lead after five innings. Mount Zion scored two in the sixth and won it with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
EHS outhit Mount Zion 9-7. Bushur had a single, home run and four RBI for the Hearts while Harvey had a single and double, Saige Atlhoff two singles and an RBI and A. Cunningham a double.
Effingham came back with a 14-4 win in five innings in the second contest.
The Hearts had three-run innings in the first and second, one in the third and finished out strong with seven in the fourth.
EHS banged out 14 hits in the game, three of those home runs. Bushur had a single, home run and two RBI, A. Cunningham a single, home run and two RBI, Harvey a single, home run and four RBI, Elena Niebrugge with a double and an RBI and Sawyer Althoff with a double and an RBI.
Saige Althoff threw a one-hitter over 4.2 innings for the win on the mound. She gave up three walks and struck out four.

At Newton
Teutopolis went five innings to hand Newton a 13-3 loss in Friday action.
The Wooden Shoes had a 14-hit contest. Daisha Piedra led the way with two singles, a double, a home run and two RBI while Kaylee Niebrugge added a single, double and four RBI, Courtney Gibson a home run and two RBI and Estella Mette and Olivia Copple two singles each.
Gibson threw a five hitter in 4.1 innings allowing three runs, one walk and striking out three.
Newton held a 2-1 first inning lead before the Wooden Shoes came back with two in the second and third, six in the fourth and ended the contest in the fifth by the 10-run rule.
Teutopolis and Newton then competed in the Vandalia Tournament Saturday.
T-town was a winner over Vandalia 7-4 and Gillespie 9-3.
In the Vandalia contest, T-town took the early lead and was never headed.
The Wooden Shoes had five hits led by Summer Wall with a solo home run, Estella Mette with two singles and two RBI and Kaylee Niebrugge with a single and two RBI.
Jordan Goeckner was the winning pitcher, going 5.1 innings allowing four runs on six hits, three walks and striking out five.
T-town won over Gillespie 9-3. Both teams had seven hits in the contest.
Erin Althoff had a triple and drove in two runs while Olivia Copple had two singles and an RBI. Piedra had a single and two RBI.
Gibson was the winner on the mound going all seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits, no walks while striking out seven.
Newton handed Vandalia a 6-3 loss, fell to Gillespie 5-3 and downed Arcola 8-5.
The Eagles broke a 2-2 tie in the third inning with two runs against Vandalia and went on for the win.
Newton had five hits led by Lexie Grove with a single and double and Ava Kessler with two RBI.
Gillespie tallied a 5-3 win over Newton. Gillespie scored three in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and seventh. Newton's three runs came in the bottom of the seventh.
Newton had five hits led by Bailee Fritchl and Lilly Kessler with a triple and an RBI each and Ava Kessler with a double. Kayla Kocher had a single and an RBI.
Newton then defeated Arcola, 8-5. The Eagles took a 1-0 first inning lead, had a five-run second and a two-run third.
Addy O'Dell had a home run and three RBI for the Eagles while L. Kessler had a single, double and three RBI and Mulvey a double and an RBI.

South Central competed in the Carlyla/Odin Round Robin Saturday.
The Cougars edged Carlyle by an 11-10 count in eight innings.
South Central had 13 hits in the game led by Laney Webster with a single, triple, home run and two RBI, Taegan Webster with two singles, a double and two RBI, Lily Malone with a single, double and an RBI and Abi Shuler with three singles and an RBI.
In the second game, South Central again was the winner by one run, 3-2 over Odin Co-op.
Malone served up the victory with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh. Malone also had a single.
T. Webster picked up the win on the mound on a four-hitter after claiming the win on the mound in the opener.
South Central improved to 5-2 and is back in action today at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

Altamont played host to Flora in a Friday contest and blanked the Wolves, 6-0.
The Indians had a three-run second, a two-run fourth and tallied a single run in the fifth.
Bailey Teasley threw a six-hitter allowing one walk while striking out 10 for the win on the mound.
Ellie McManaway had two singles and drove in two runs while Peyton Osteen had one RBI.
Altamont then competed in the Robinson Triangular Saturday.
In the opener, Altamont defeated Oblong, 10-2.
The Indians held a 3-1 lead in the third inning then had a two-run fifth, a four-run sixth and finished out with one in the seventh.
Altamont had 11 hits and was aided by four Oblong errors.

Then in the contest against host Robinson, the Indians fell by a 6-5 count in the bottom of the seventh.
Robinson edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead. Altamont tied in the top of the second but Robinson moved ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the frame. Once again Altamont tied in the third and moved ahead 5-3 in the top of the seventh. But Robinson rallied with three runs in the bottom of the frame to pull out the 6-5 victory.
Teasley had a home run and two RBI while Osteen had a single and double and McManaway a double and two RBI.
