C-W Edges EHS, WSS, S. Central Win In Softball

CASEY -- Effingham High School took the early lead but Casey-Westfield came back to edge the Hearts, 3-2 in softball action Friday.

The Hearts opened the first inning with a 2-0 lead. Casey-Westfield tallied a run in the second and tied the game in the third. The winning run came in the fifth inning and the Warriors held on for the win.

Casey-Westfield beat the Hearts with the long ball. Kennedy Repp hit two home runs, both solo shots, while Megan Cribelar had a single, a home run and an RBI. Emma Mason added a double.

The Hearts had four hits in the contest led by Abby Cunningham with a double and two RBI and Grace Bushur with two singles.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg trailed Newton but came back strong to take a 7-2 victory Friday.

Karlie Bean went the whole seven innings on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits, no walks while striking out 10.

Newton edged ahead with a run in the third inning. The Hatchets came back with two in the fourth, one in the fifth and finished strong with four in the sixth.

WSS had eight hits led by Sam Hayes with a single, double and an RBI, Ella Kinkelaar with a triple, Kaylyn Carey with a double and Natalie Hayes with a single and two RBI. Bean and Maddy Pfeiffer had a single and dro vein a run each.

Newotn was led by Kayla Kocher with a double and an RBI.

Kocher suffered the loss on the mound allowing senve runs on eight hits, but not giving up a walk and striking out 10.

At Casey

South Central competed in the Casey-Westfield Tournament Saturday and claimed two victories.

The Cougars fell in the opener to the host squad, 11-1 in six innings. The Warriors held an 8-1 lead in the second and finished in the contest in the sixth.

South Central had double hits led by Laney Webster and Kaitlyn Swift with a double each. Swift added an RBI.

South Central then downed Oakwood, 17-8 behind a 17-hit attack.

Taegan Webster had four singles while Brooklyn Garrett had a single, double and an RBI. L. Webster had a single, two doubles and two RBI and Lily Malone three singles and six RBI. Kaitlyn Swift added two singles, a double and three RBI.

South Central then won over Champaign Central, 7-1. The Cougars held a 2-0 lead after two innings and a 6-1 lead after three. South Central tacked on a final run in the fifth.

T. Webster threw a four-hitter for the win on the mound.

South Central had 12 hits led by Kaitlyn Swift with two singles, a double and two RBI, Garrett with two singles and an RBI, Kyra Swift with a single and double and L. Webster and T. Webster with a double each.

South Central is now 3-1 on the season and returns to action today against Vandalia.

At Georgetown, Ky.

Altamont High School traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky Friday and Saturday and squared off against four Kentucky teams.

In the opener Friday, Flming County defeated Altamont, 17-4 in three innings. Fleming Co. took a 7-2 opening inning lead and had a 10-2 second inning.

Altamont had three hits in the contest led by Peyton Osteen with a home run and two RBI and Ellie McManaway with a single, triple and two RBI.

The Indians then played three games Saturday.

Woodford County defeated Altamont, 18-4 in five innings behind an 18-hit attack.

Altamont had eight hits led by Bailey Teasley with a single, double and four RBI and McManaway with two singles. The Indians committed seven errors.

Altamont then fell to Scott COunty, 11-0 in four innings.

Scott County had an eight-run second and a three-run third.

Altamont outhit the winners by a 5-3 count. Lanie Tetrick had a double while McManaway, Osteen, Teasley and Grace Lemke had a single each.

The Indians then fell to Ryle Union, 19-0 in four innings. Ryle's M. Goddard threw a no-hitter allowing one walk while striking out four.
