Cumberland Downs Dieterich, St. A Drops Opener In Softball

The Pirates stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead. Dieterich came back with a run in the second, but Cumberland matched that run in the top of the third then had a four-run fourth and a three-run fifth to end the contest.
The Pirates had nine hits in the game led by Tolen with three singles and two RBI, Martinez with two singles and an RBI, McGinnis with a double and two RBI and Carr with a single and two RBI.
Dieterich was led by Courtney Brummer with a triple.
Lewis picked up the win on the mound going all five innings,allowing one run on five hits, no walks while striking out four.

At St. Anthony
The Tolono Unity Rockets came calling and picked up an 8-1 victory over Effingham St. Anthony Monday.
Tolono Unity opened with a two-run first. Both teams scored a single run in the third. The Rockets then tallied two in the fifth and three in the seventh.
The Rockets banged out 11 hits in the contest including three doubles and three home runs.
Meanwhile, T. Henry was the winner on the mound allowing only three St. Anthony hits while walking one and striking out six. A. Miller came on in relief in the fifth and went the rest of the way, keeping the Bulldogs off the bases while striking out four.
St. Anthony was led by Cameran Rios with two singles.
"We're looking forward to bouncing back tomorrow against Robinson," said St. Anthony Coach Makayla Walsh.
