Junior High Softball Results -- August 17

Effingham Junior High School edged Mattoon 6-5 in girls softball competition Tuesday.

 

Mattoon stepped out to a 2-1 opening inning lead. The Mustangs came back with two runs in the third. But the score was knotted at 4-4 after six innings. Effingham then tallied two in the top of the seventh and held Mattoon to one in the bottom of the frame for the win.

Effingham had six hits led by Alyssa Martin with a single, home run and five RBI and Ina Mapes with a single and triple.

Natalie Armstrong was the winner on the mound, going all seven innings, allowing five runs on five hits, four walks while striking out 12.

At St. Anthony

Shelbyville came calling and blanked Effingham St. Anthony, 15-0 in five innings with the 10-run rule Tuesday.

Shelbyville edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tallied one in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth and finished out with six in the fifth.

J. Wildman threw a no-hitter for the winners allowing two walks while striking out six.

Jasper County tallied a 13-0 win over Dieterich in five innings due to the 10-run rule Tuesday.

Jasper County took a 4-0 lead in the second and added on two in the third and seven in the fourth.

Hitting for the winners were A. Reich with a triple and an RBI and C. Probst and K. Deckard with a single and two RBI each. M. Miller added two RBI.

The lone hit for Dieterich was a single by C. Faller.

At Cowden

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Clarissa Johnson threw a no-hitter in downing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 21-0 in three innings Tuesday.

WSS tallied seven runs in the first, nine in the second and five in the third.

WSS had 14 hits and CHBC committed five errors. Hitting leaders for WSS were Aubree Antrim with a double, triple and an RBI, Johnson with a single, triple and three RBI, Kinley Chaney with a double and an RBI and Heavenlee Vonderheide with a double and two RBI.

At Cowden
