The St. Anthony Bulldogs are regional softball champions, defeating the Altamont Indians 9-1 Friday afternoon at Bulldog Field. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

St. Anthony will host Palestine/Hutsonville Tuesday in Class 1A sectional semifinal action. Palestine/Hutsonville defeated Cumberland 9-8 Friday.

Altamont took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Taylor Mette after a pair of St. Anthony errors.

St. Anthony took the lead 2-1 in the third. Grace Karolewicz singled to lead off the inning. With one out, Cameron Rios singled to drive in the tying run and then Addie Wernsing squeezed Rios home to give the Bulldogs the lead.

Altamont kept the game close until the fifth inning when St. Anthony scored four times with two outs. Haley Niebrugge and Lucy Fearday each drove home a run, then Maddie Kibler homered to left to drive home two more runs.

The Bulldogs scored three more runs in the sixth with Rios and Niebrugge each driving home a run.

Lucy Fearday went the distance to get the win for St. Anthony, giving up just one unearned run on eight hits, walking one and fanning 11 batters. 

Bailey Teasley took the loss for Altamont, giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits and a walk with no strikeouts.

St. Anthony is now 17-8, while Altamont finishes the campaign at 8-14 with four of those losses to St. Anthony.
