Hearts' Season Comes To End, CHBC Edges Dieterich

MATTOON -- Effingham High School saw its softball season come to a close in the Class 3A Regional A Wednesday with a loss to Mattoon, 7-1.

The Green Wave took a 2-0 first inning lead. The Hearts pulled within 2-1 in the fourth. But Mattoon had a four-run fourth and scored a single run in the sixth.

EHS had four hits led by Jacy Boatman with a single and double and Grace Bushur with a double. Jaidi Davis added a single.

R. Morrison threw a four-hitter allowing only one walk while striking out eight for the Green Wave.

Mattoon will now head to top-seeded Charleston today for the regional championship.

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged Dieterich 3-2 in a regular season contest Wednesday.

The Movin' Maroons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and led 2-1 after five. CHBC then rallied with in the bottom of the seventh with two runs to pull out the victory.

CHBC had six hits led by Sydney Dunaway with a double and Gracie Heckert with a single and two RBI. Madison Wojcik had a single and also drove in a run.

Dieterich had two hits, singles by Kaitlyn Boerngen and Ruby Westendorf.
