Teutopolis High School was a winner in the annual Cross Creek Softball Classic at Evergreen Hollow Park Friday.

 

The Wooden Shoes took the early lead and never was headed the rest of the way for a 14-6 win.

With 15 hits, the Shoes tallied 14 runs. Lexie Niebrugge led the hitting attack with three singles, a double and drove in six runs. Erin Althoff had two singles and a double while Kaylee Niebrugge pounded out two doubles and drove in two runs. Mallory Stone had a triple and two RBI, Emily Konkel three singles and Tia Probst a double and an RBI. Estella Mette had a single and drove in a run.

Probst went the distance on the mound allowing six runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Bulldogs were led in hitting by Addie Wernsing with a single, double and triple and Lucy Fearday with two triples and two RBI. Sydney Kibler and Alexis Stephens had a single and an RBI each.

T-town led 2-0 after the opening, held a 7-0 lead after three. St. Anthony tallied three in the fourth and one in the fifth but the Shoes held a 9-4 lead then tacked on four more in the sixth and one in the seventh.

At Flora

It was a home run weekend for Effingham High School as they finished three games with seven long balls. Unfortunately, the Hearts could muster only one win in the three contests.

EHS claimed a Friday victory over Flora by blanking the Wolves, 11-0 in five innings.

The Hearts stepped out to a 6-0 first inning lead then tacked on four in the second and finished out with one in the fifth.

Jaidi Davis threw a no-hitter through 4.1 innings for the win on the mound. Davis allowed one walk while striking out six. Taylor Armstrong came on in the fifth, allowing one hit and no walks in 0.2 of an inning.

It was home run time as the Hearts pounded out four in the contest. Tori Budde had a single, two home runs and drove in five. Emma Hardiek had a home run and three RBI while Davis aided her own cause with a home run and two RBI. Taylor Armstrong finished with a single and double while Daelyn Dunston added a double.

EHS then dropped an Apollo Conference doubleheader to Charleston Saturday.

In the opener, Charleston edged the Hearts, 4-3. The Trojans held a 1-0 first inning lead and the Hearts tied in the top of the second. But Charleston came back with three in the bottom of the second. The Hearts rallied with two in the third but the scoring ended for both teams.

Hardiek had a home run and drove in two for EHS while Sawyer Althoff and Davis had a dobule each. Abby Cunningham added a single and an RBI.

In the second game, Charleston outlasted the Hearts, 14-10.

This was a hitting and error contest. The Trojans had 14 hits and six errors while the Hearts had 11 hits and seven errors.

The Hearts held a 6-5 lead in the top of the third but Charleston regained the lead with three in the bottom of the frame. The Hearts moved ahead again in the top of the fourth 9-8 but the Trojans tallied three in the bottom of the frame ad two more in the fitth and one in the sixth.

Budde had another home run and finished with two singles and four RBI. R. Cunningham joined the home run parade and also had a single and two RBI. A. Cunningham had a single and double, Armstrong two singles and an RBI and Davis a single and an RBI.

At Vandalia

Teutopolis took the early lead and held that throughout for a 4-2 victory over Vandalia Saturday.

The Vandals trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the seventh and their attempted comeback fell short.

The Wooden Shoes had 10 hits led by Emily Konkel with a single, two doubles and two RBI, Kaylee Niebrugge with three singles and two RBI and Erin Althoff with a triple.

Courtney Gibson went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits, six walks and four strikeouts.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and went on to claim a 16-5 victory over Neoga in seven innings Friday.

The Hatchets also banged out 16 hits in the contest with six of those the extra base kind.

Ella Kinkelaar had two singles, a double and three RBI, Ava Richards a single, double and an RBI, Gabby Vonderheide a single, triple and four RBI, Hannah Hayes a single and double, Alexis Agney a double and two RBI, Sam Porter a double and one RBI and Kaylyn Carey two singles and an RBI.

Bean was the winning pitcher, going three innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk and striking out five.

Neoga was led by Burcham with two singles and an RBI and Campbell with a single and an RBI.

At Toledo

Altamont suffered a loss at the hands of homestanding Cumberland Friday, 11-1 in six innings.

The Pirates held a 2-0 first inning lead then added on two in the second, one in the third, five in the fifth and finished the game with one in the sixth.

Cumberland had 11 hits led by Carr with two singles, a home run and two RBI, Tolen with two singles, a double and an RBI, McGinnis with a single, double and two RBI and Mitchell with a double and two RBI.

Altamont was led by Bailey Teasley with two singles and a double. The lone RBI was by Abby Goeckner.

In Saturday's contest against Newton, the Indians fell, 7-2.

The Eagles edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a 3-1 lead after four innings. Newton tallied three more in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Newton was led by J. Parr with three doubles and two RBI, G. Michl with two singles, a double and two RBI, K. Kocher with two doubles and two RBI, A. Russel with two doubles, P. Kinder with two singles and A. Kessler with a double and an RBI.

Altamont was led by Abby Goeckner with a single and double and Ellie McManaway with a double. Olivia Eckhardt had an RBI.

Dieterich led 3-2 after three innings but Red Hill (Bridgeport) came back to claim a 6-3 victory Friday.

Red Hill had a total of 13 hits in the contest led by S. Harper with a single, double and two RBI, S. Griesemer with three singles and an RBI, M. Scherer with two singles and an RBI, L. Moore with a double and two RBI and E. Robinson with two singles.

Dieterich had three hits led by Cortney Brummer with a home run and three RBI and Ruby Westendorf with a double.
