Hearts Drop Regular Season Softball Contest

MOUNT VERNON -- Effingham High School held a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth but Mount Vernon came back to take a 7-3 regular season softball win Tuesday.

The Rams moved into a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Hearts tied in the second. EHS then pushed ahead 3-1 with two in the sixth. But the Rams came back strong in the bottom of the frame, scoring six runs to pull out the victory.

The Hearts had only two hits, a double by Emma Budde and a single by Skyler Schafer. Jaidi Davis had an RBI.

Mount Vernon had seven hits in the game led by Brooklynn Kelley and Lauren Little with a single and double each. Little drove in two runs and Kelley one.

Addi Sargent had the Hearts stymied from the mound. She threw the two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
