Millikin Softball Goes 3-3 On The Week

The Millikin softball team split with Carthage College on April 28 at home. The Lady Reds won game one 3-1, but the Big Blue rallied to win game two 3-2 in 10 innings.

In game one, Carthage broke open a scoreless game with a three-run fifth inning. Millikin scored a run in the seventh inning with Kalli Farmer (Columbia, H.S.) picking up the RBI single. Farmer was 3-4 in the game for the Big Blue.

Millikin opened the scoring in game two with a single run in the third inning. Bailey Gowin (Mt. Zion, H.S.) tripled and scored on a Farmer single. After Carthage tied the game at 1-1, Farmer drove home Taylor Jordan (Moweaqua, Central A&M H.S.), who had doubled, in the fifth. After Carthage tied the game in the seventh, Millikin scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Farmer tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Maggie Comerford (Decatur, Meridian H.S.). Farmer was 4-5 in game two with two RBI. Jordan and Gowin each had two hits. Rachel Patting (Rock Island, Alleman H.S.) was the winning pitcher for Millikin throwing all 10 innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four.

Millikin split a doubleheader with #25 DePauw University on April 25 at home. Millikin won game one 6-5 in nine innings and lost the second game 8-0 in five innings.

In game one, Millikin broke a 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Comerford had the game winning base hit scoring Gowin. Comerford was 3-4 in the game with two RBI. Farmer went 3-3 with two walks and an RBI. Jordan was 2-4 for the Big Blue. Freshman Aly Armstrong (Effingham, H.S.) was the winning pitcher in relief throwing four innings allowing three hits while striking out four.

The Big Blue split with on April 24 at home. The Lady Blues won game one 4-1 while Millikin rallied to win game two 6-2.

Jordan Hildebrand (Mendon, Mendon Unity H.S.) was 2-3 for Millikin in game one.

Millikin opened game two with a three run first inning and scored two more in the third and one in sixth. Skielyr Trenkle (Le Roy, H.S.) had a two-run single and Alyssa White (Mokena, Lincoln Way East H.S.) doubled home a run to get Millikin on the board in the first inning. Comerford had an RBI triple in the Millikin third inning. Trenkle finished the game 2-3 with three RBI. Comerford and Farmer each had two hits for Millikin. Patting picked up the win throwing seven innings allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out four.

Millikin is now 25-11, 7-7. The Big Blue are scheduled to close out the season at Carroll University, but the game was postponed on April 29 with no make-up date set as of yet.
