EHS Goes 2-2 Over Weekend, Dieterich Wins In Softball

Effingham High School went 2-2 during weekend softball action.

 

The Hearts fell in an Apollo Conference doubleheader Friday against Charleston.

The Trojans claimed an 11-0 win in five innings via the 10-run rule. Charleston took a 1-0 first inning lead and had a 10-run fourth.

The Hearts had only two hits, a double by Emma Hardiek and a single by Emma Budde.

In the second contest, the Trojans stepped out to a 7-0 opening inning lead and handed the Hearts a 14-3 loss in five innings.

EHS had five hits led by Lauryn Douthit with two singles and Emma Huss with a double and an RBI.

In Saturday's games, Effingham edged Carmi-White County, 5-4 in eight innings.

Carmi-White County took a 3-1 lead in the third inning but the Hearts tied in the fifth. Both teams scored a single run in the sixth before Effingham won it in the eighth.

The Hearts had five extra base hits led by Douthit with a solo homer and Carsyn Fearday with a two-run shot. Morgan Krouse added a single and double, Skylar Schafer a single, double and two RBI and Hardiek a double.

Effingham claimed a 10-8 win over Robinson. The Hearts took a 3-1 first inning lead and, again, won it in the eighth. The score was tied at 7-7 and EHS came through with three runs in the top of the eighth.

The Hearts had 12 hits led by Krouse with a single, double, triple and two RBI, Fearday with a home run and two RBI, Hardiek with a double and an RBI and Budde with two singles and an RBI.

Dieterich blanked Martinsville, 4-0 in action Saturday.

The Movin' Maroons banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Boerngen, Poe and Robards with two singles each. Robards added an RBI.

Boerngen went 6.1 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, two walks and striking out six for the win on the mound. Robards came on to strike out the last two batters.
