Hearts, Bulldogs Nab Wins, Area Softball Roundup

Twelve hits and twelve runs later, Effingham High School picked up a victory over Marshall by a 12-3 count in softball action Thursday.

The Hearts tallied 12 hits led by Emma Hardiek with a single, home run and an RBI while Carsyn Fearday added a single, double and three RBI, Skyler Schafer three singles and an RBI and Lauryn Douthit with a triple and two RBI.

The Hearts led 2-0 after the first inning and 6-1 after the second. They had a five-run third.

Marshall committed seven errors in the contest.

At Flora

Effingham St. Anthony continued chalking up W's in the win category. The latest victim was Flora as the Bulldogs took home an 11-3 tally Thursday.

St. Anthony pounded out 15 hits in the game led by Allie Day with two singles, a double and three RBI, Katie Kabbes with two singles and a double, Liz Day with two singles and four RBI, Sydney Gibson with two singles and Grace Karolewicz with a double and two RBI.

A. Day was the winning pitching on an eight-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts.

The Bulldogs are now a perfect 8-0 on the season.

At Olney

Altamont came from a 6-4 deficit to tie the game in the sixth. The Indians and Olney went extra innings before Altamont pulled out a 12-6 win in the ninth.

The Indians tallied 14 hits in the game and were aided by four Olney errors.

Bailey Teasley led the way in hitting with two singles, a double and two RBI.Tinley Mette added two triples and two RBI while Olivia Eckhardt had a single and triple, Caitlyn White had two singles and an RBI, Taylor Mette a single, double and two RBI and Olivia Williams a single and three RBI. Mary Guse added a double.

Teasley picked up the win on the mound with a six-hitter.

Altamont is now 3-4 on the season and will travel to Robinson Saturday.

At Villa Grove

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to handily defeat Villa Grove, 18-1 in six innings Thursday.

The Hatchets had a 14-hit contest with 10 of those extra base hits. Mackenzi Tabbert led the way with a double, triple, home run and three RBI while Mackinzee Reynolds had a double, home run and three RBI and Calla Roney two singles, a home run and three RBI. Karlie Bean also had a home run, along with a double and drove in five runs. Carson Cole added a single, double and an RBI and Katrina Davis a double and an RBI.

Megan Schlechte threw a five-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.

St. Elmo/Brownstown and Nokomis played to a 5-5 tie in action Thursday.

SEB stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead then added on two in the third. Nokomis came back with three in the fifth and tied in the bottom of the sixth.

Katelyn Maxey had the hot bat for the Eagles with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Natalie Oberlink added a single and double.

South Central improved to 5-1 on the season with a 7-3 victory over Neoga as two National Trail Conference teams met Thursday.

Neoga held a 1-0 lead until the fourth when the Cougars tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Neoga regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. But South Central scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

South Central had 10 hits led by Sydney Garrett, Kayli Swift and Lily Malone with a single and double each. Garrett had three RBI while Swift and Malone added one each. Laney Webster had a double.

South Central hosts Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City held the early lead but Mulberry Grove was having none of it and came back for an 8-2 victory Thursday.

Mulberry Grove had eight hits but committed four errors.

CHBC had four hits led by Madison Cherry with a double. CHBC drops to 0-3 on the season.

Martinsville took a 3-0 first inning lead and that's all the Bluestreaks needed in a 3-1 win over Dieterich Thursday.

Dieterich tallied its lone run in the second and that's all the scoring there was the rest of the way. The Movin' Maroons had four hits.

Alaina Morgan pitched the win with 11 strikeouts.
