Effingham traveled to Charleston for junior high softball action Monday.

Charleston took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and went on for a 6-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Effingham had four hits led by Gabbi Kreke, Courtney Beck, Aila Woomer and Annie Frost with a single each. Kreke had an RBI.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had an 11-run second inning and trounced Martinsville 17-2 in three innings in the opening game of a doubleheader Monday.

Wojcik threw a no-hitter. Meanwhile Gracie Heckert had three singles and two RBI and Koda Colman two singles and an RBI.

In the second contest, CHBC won 15-9. CHBC stepped out to a 4-0 early lead but Martinsville came back and tied at 6-6 in the fourth inning. CHBC then had a 9-3 fifth inning.

Heckert had a double, two triples and five RBI while Mady Wojcik had two singles, two doubles and four RBI. Ruby Stuckemeyer added two singles and an RBI.

At Casey

Casey-Westfield took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning then had to hold off Teutopolis for a 5-2 victory Monday.

T-town outhit the winners 6-2. Erin Althoff had a double while Kremer added two singles and two RBI.

Cutwright picked up the pitching win for Casey-Westfield allowing six hits, two walks and striking out 11. T-town pitchers gave up 14 walks.

T-town drops to 8-5 on the season.

Cumberland tallied four runs in each of the first three innings then finished off with two in the fourth for a 14-1 victory over Dieterich.

Cumberland had 10 hits and was aided by six Dieterich errors.
