EHS, T-town, Cumberland Nab Softball Victories

Effingham High School handed Neoga a 7-5 loss in girls softball action Tuesday.

The Hearts took a 2-0 lead in the second inning then tacked on three more in the fourth and scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

EHS had nine hits led by Skyler Schafer with three singles and an RBI. McKenzie Wittenberg had two singles.

Neoga was led by Jessica Atwell with two singles, a double and an RBI, Makenzie Saunders with two singles and an RBI and Kelsey Partlow with two singles.

At Teutopolis

Despite being outhit by Mattoon by an 11-4 count, Teutopolis pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Green Wave Tuesday.

Mattoon took a 1-0 lead in the seventh when the Wooden Shoes tied the game. T-town then tallied the winning run in the eighth.

The Shoes were led by Alli Brumleve with two singles and an RBI. Brumleve also picked up the pitching win going all seven innings, not giving up a walk and striking out one.

Effingham  St. Anthony hit the road to Nokomis and fell to the Redskins, 3-0 Tuesday. Nokomis tallied single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

The Bulldogs had three hits led by Liz Day with two singles. St. Anthony also committed two errors.

At Toledo

Cumberland edged Newton 3-2 in action Monday. That game went 12 innings before being decided.

Libby Dunaway picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing eight hits, no walks and striking out eight. Newton outhit Cumberland 12-7.

The Eagles were led by Woods with three singles and a double and Earnest with a double.

Cumberland was led by Jazzmine Oakley with two singles.

At Mulberry Grove

Mulberry Grove took a 7-0 first inning lead and went on to beat Altamont 11-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.

Mulberry Grove had 11 hits while Altamont had six.

The Indians were led by Taylor Mette with two singles and Kimberly Brummer with a double.

Altamont drops to 6-16 on the season.

Ramsey edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 6-5. CHBC held a 3-1 lead until the fifth when Ramsey scored four to move ahead 5-3. CHBC tied in the top of the seventh but Ramsey got the winning run in the bottom of the frame.

CHBC had four hits led by Madison Cherry with a solo home run. The Bobcats drop to 0-3 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference and 1-6 overall.
