WSS Beats St. Anthony, Area Softball Roundup

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came from behind with a four-run fourth and a five-run sixth to beat Effingham St. Anthony 10-2 in high school softball competition Thursday.

St. Anthony held a 1-0 lead until the third when WSS tied the score. The Bulldogs moved ahead in the bottom of the inning 2-1. But WSS broke the game open with four runs in the fourth.

The Hatchets had 10 hits in the contest led by Calla Roney with two singles, a double and three RBI, Rentfro with two singles and two RBI and Gruel with a single and double. Roney also picked up the pitching win on a six-hitter with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

St. Anthony was led by Marci Mills with two singles, Hunter Niebrugge with a triple and an RBI and Abbie Schmidt with a double. The Bulldogs drop to 4-1 in the conference, 9-9 overall.

WSS moved its record to 5-0 in the conference, 16-4 overall.

At Neoga

It didn't take Teutopolis long to open up a big lead as the Wooden Shoes tallied five in the first inning and went on for an 18-2 win in five innings.

The Shoes banged out 16 hits in the contest. Raegan Drees hit a three-run homer while Brumleve added a single, double and two RBI, Will a double, Drees a double and two RBI, Niebrugge two singles, Kadi Borries a double and Dust two singles and an RBI.

K. Borries, A. Borries, Will and Niebrugge combined for the one-hitter with six walks and six strikeouts.

The lone hit came from Cheyenne Vondrak with a single.

T-town is now 19-1 on the season.

At Beecher City

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick picked up its first win of the season by beating St. Elmo/Brownstown 10-6.

BCCH broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the third but SEB came back to regain the lead with two in the fourth. BCCH then had a six-run fifth.

Isabella Doty had a single, double, triple and two RBI while Taylor Oldham had two singles and Sarah Kirchhofer had two singles and drove in two run.

SEB had six hits led by Philpot with three singles and three RBI.

BCCH is now 1-4 in the National Trail Conference, 1-9 overall.

Charleston stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and went on to beat Altamont 9-3.

The Trojans had 14 hits in the game while Altamont had four. The Indians were led by Mayhaus with a single and two RBI. The Indians drop to 3-1 on the season, 5-11 overall.
