ALTAMONT -- Effingham Junior High School broke loose from a close 7-5 game in the fifth inning and went on to down Altamont 19-5 Friday evening in softball competition.

The Mustangs tallied seven runs with two outs in the fifth and followed that up with five unearned runs in the sixth aided by five Altamont errors.

Makayla Allie had two singles, a double, triple and two RBI for Effingham while McKenzie Wittenberg had two singles and an RBI, Emma Budde had a triple and an RBI, Morgan Krouse two singles and an RBI and Jaidi Davis a single, triple and three RBI.

At Altamont

At St. Peter

South Central picked up its first loss of the season with a 13-6 defeat at the hands of Field Friday.

Field took a 4-0 lead after three innings. South Central pushed ahead 5-4 in the top of the fourth but Field tied in the bottom of the frame. The two teams then tallied a run each in the sixth to remain knotted at 6-6. Field then broke loose with seven runs for the win.

Katie Shumate had a single, double and an RBI for South Central while Sydnee Garrett had two singles. South Central drops to 7-1.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown ended the game in the fifth inning over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick by the 10-run rule, 13-3.

"We were pretty sharp again tonight," said SEB Coach Tom Fedrigon. "Playing solid defense and taking advantage of opportunities at the plate to put 13 runs on the scoreboard. Cassidy Moss had two hits as the lead-off hitter and was on base all four plate appearances and scored four times. Kaelyn Fedrigon was on base three of her four plate appeareances, scoring all three times."

Katelyn Maxey had a triple and two RBI while Cassidy Moss had two singles and an RBI as SEB improved to 3-8.
