St. A, SSW To Meet For NTC Tourney Final, EHS Drops Softball DH To T-town

Effingham St. Anthony and Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament with victories Tuesday.

St. Anthony handed Neoga a 12-4 loss. The two teams were knotted at 2-2 until the third when the Bulldogs tallied two. Neoga tied in the top of the fourth but St. Anthony came back with six runs in the bottom of the frame.

The Bulldogs were big on the offensive end with 19 hits. Marci Mills had a single, two doubles and drove in three runs for the winners. Megan Nuxoll had two singles, a double and two RBI. Morgan Gardewine and Jenna Woltman had three singles and an RBI each. Paige Koester and Maddie Schuette had two singles and an RBI each.

Neoga was led by Roderick with two singles and an RBI.

The Bulldogs will meet Stew-Stras/Windsor at 4 p.m. today at Neoga for the championship.

At Altamont

No. 3 Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor upset second-seeded Altamont 2-0. SSW edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and held that until the seventh when another run dented the plate.

SSW had four hits led by Slifer with two singles. Quast had a single and drove in a run. Goeckner had the lone hit with a double for Altamont.

Knop picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with four walks and 12 strikeouts.

Stew-Stras/Windsor will meet St. Anthony at 4 p.m. today for the championship at Neoga.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and went on for a 9-0 win over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick.

Baylee Scholes pitched a one-hitter with four walks and eight strikeouts.

"Baylee did a tremendous job of keeping the Beecher City hitters off balance, spinning a one-hit shutout," said SEB Coach Tom Fedrigon. "She did a nice job of establishing her fastball for strikes early in the count and either got a strikeout or mostly ground outs with her off-speed stuff later in the count. She and her catcher Audriana Pruett executed a nice game plan."

Kyrstyn Fitch had two singles, a double and an RBI while Tessa Philpot had a double, triple and two RBI. Scholes added two singles and an RBi and Pruett a double and an RBI.

SEB will face South Central at 4 p.m. today at St. Elmo for the consolation championship.

South Central trailed Dieterich 2-0 until the third, then broke loose with 10 runs and finished the game in the fifth 16-4 via the 10-run rule.

Abby King was the winning pitcher with an eight-hitter, no walks and five strikeouts. Serina Lee had two singles, a double and two RBI while King had two singles, a triple and three RBI. Alanna Sigrist had three singles, a double and three RBI.

The Cougars are now 8-12 on the season and will face St. Elmo/Brownstown at 4 p.m. today for the consolation championship.

At Dieterich

Teutopolis came calling and claimed a doubleheader over Effingham in competition Tuesday.

In the opener, the Wooden Shoes took a 3-0 lead in the third, then tacked on a run in the fifth. The Hearts pulled within 4-3 in the sixth but T-town added a run in the seventh.

T-town banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Kadi Borries with a single, double, home run and four RBI, Allison Apke with a single and double and Reagan Drees with a home run and an RBI.

Hope Collier had a double for EHS.

In the second game, T-town went wild, scoring 21 runs on 14 hits for a 21-6 victory in five innings.

Anni Borries had a single, double, two home runs and seven RBI for the Shoes. Apke added a triple, home run and three RBI. Drees had a second home run with two RBI. Madison Cowman had three singles and an RBI. Cowman was the winning pitcher on a five-hitter with four strikeouts.

Shelbyville bounced Newton to the tune of 10-1. The Rams held a 2-0 first inning lead and had a five-run third.

Boone pitched a six-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts. Koontz, had a single, two doubles and two RBI for the winners.

Clay City/North Clay held a 6-3 lead going into the seventh when Odin/Sandoval tallied four runs to pull out the victory.

Spears had three singles and a double to lead the winners. CCNC was led by Matanich and Ma. Hance with two singles each.
