NTC Tourney Opens With Four Games

Four games were contested in opening round play of the National Trail Conference Softball Tournament Wednesday.

Effingham St. Anthony pounded Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 17-6 in six innings. The two teams were tied at 3-3 after the first but St. Anthony edged ahead with two runs in the second and finished out with a nine-run sixth.

The Bulldogs banged out 17 hits. Jenna Woltman led the way with two singles, two triples and four RBI. Megan Nuxoll added a triple, home run and five RBI. Morgan Gardewine tallied a single, double and an RBI. Hunter Niebrugge had a single and triple while Maddie Schuette had a double and two RBI and Marci Mills a triple.

BCCH had three hits, all singles by Oldham, Doty and Easley. Easley added two RBI.

In game two, Neoga banged out 13 hits and claimed a 12-8 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

Casi Blazich had a single, two doubles and three RBI for the winners. Keieran Effner added a single, double and an RBI. Nikki Miah had three singles and an RBI and Josie Taylor had two singles.

SEB was led by Philpot with three singles, Brown with a single, double and two RBI, S. Moss a single, double and three RBI and Long with a single and double.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor claimed a 5-2 victory over South Central in the third contest. SSW edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-1 after four then had a three-run fifth.

SSW had four hits in the contest while South Central had three hits and an error. South Central drops to 7-12.

In the fourth game, Altamont stepped out to a 5-1 first inning lead then had an eight-run second and downed Dieterich 16-2 in five innings.

The Indians' Biggs pitched a one-htiter with six strikeouts. Stuckemeyer came on in the final inning to strike out three batters.

Winters had two doubles and four RBI while Stone had a single, double and an RBI and Stuckemyer a single, double and two RBI.

Heuerman had the lone hit for Dieterich with a single.
