Wooden Shoes Win Regional Soccer Championship

Teutopolis High School had to fight it out with Greenville for the championship of the Class 1A Greenville Regional Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes went two overtimes and through seven PK shooters to beat Greenville.

One hundred scoreless mintues led to the 3-2 PK victory. PK scorers were Ethan Thoele, Josh Habing and Noah Thompson.

On top of scoring the winning PK, goalkeeper Thompson also had three saves during the PK shootout and seven saves during regular time and overtime.

"We now sit at 17-2 and will travel to Williamsville for a sectional semifinal game Friday where we'll face off against Pleasant Plains at 5 p.m.," said T-town Coach Aaron Wendt.

 

At Effingham

Newton claimed the championship of the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional Tuesday.

The Eagles blanked Hillsboro 1-0.

That advances Newton to the Williamsville Sectional where they will take on the winner of the Virden North Mac Regional, either Williamsville or Carlinville. Those two teams play today at 7 p.m. for the title.

Newton will meet that winner at 7 p.m. Friday.
