Bulldogs Soccer Season Ends In Regional, EHS Drops Regular Season Finale

Effingham St. Anthony High School saw its soccer season come to a close with a 4-2 loss to Robinson in the Class 1A St. Anthony Regional Tuesday.

In the first half, the Bulldogs took the lead when Manaye Mossman scored an early goal. But, Robinson tied the game with eight minutes left in the first half.

The Maroons moved ahead when St. Anthony conceded a penalty kick but the Bulldogs tied the contest at 2-2 after a 30 yard shot from a direct kick well placed to the top opposite corner by Marvin Rodriguez.

The two teams went two overtimes and Robinson scored twice in the last minutes of the second overtime for the win.

"I want to thank my seniors, Carson Fallert, Zackary Hurren, Evan Mossman, Marvin Rodriguez and Pierce Verdeyen as well as my two assistant coaches, Reilly Ashton and Brad Jasen for a great season," said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes.

Robinson advances to Friday competition against No. 2 seeded Hillsboro at 4 p.m.

Saturday's match includes No. 3 Newton against No. 5 Altamont Co-op at 10 a.m.

The championship match is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17 at 4 p.m.

 

1A Greenville Regional

Pana Co-op blanked Vandalia 3-0 in the Class 1A Greenville Regional Tuesday.

Pana Co-op advances to a Friday meeting with top-seeded Teutopolis at 4 p.m.

In the other match Friday, Greenville takes on Staunton Co-op at 6 p.m.

The winners advance to the championship match Tuesday, October 17 at 4:30 p.m.

 

At Mahomet

Effingham High School ended the regular season with a tough match against Mahomet-Seymour Tuesday.

The Hearts dropped the contest, 4-1.

"We scored first and had several other great opportunities," said EHS Coach Logan Arney. "We showed great signs of improvement compared to our last game earlier in the season and came out with a lot to be proud of, not only tonight, but the entire season."

Maicol Sefton scored the lone goal. Camilo Aden had one assist. Xander Marler had seven saves and Brady Wilson one save.

The Hearts ended regular season play with a 14-6-1 record.

"That's an incredible accomplishment," said Coach Arney.

EHS will host a regional which begins Friday. March 13 with the first match finding Salem at Olney at 4:30 p.m.

The regional continues Wednesday, Oct. 18 with Troy Triad meeting the winner of the opening contest at 4 and Effingham, seeded sixth, against No. 4 Highland at 6 p.m.

The winners advance to the regional championship Friday, October 20 at 4 p.m.
